Big question - should I even bother?

Right here are my specs :

E6420
2gb ram
7900gto 512

I was playing stalker earlier at 1280x1240 or whatever it is at everything on high, and I get about 40fps ish average.

I was thinking of getting a 4850, would I see a massive performance increase?

With that card being about £120 odd, I think it would be a nice buy.

Would like to play at a 1680 res on most games.

Don't think personally its worth upgrading my CPU or ram mainly because I can oc my CPU to about 3ghz and I don't think I'd get a majorly noticeable performance increase.

Also, how does the 4850 perform with crysis?

Sorry for long post :)

The 4850 is pants with Crysis. But then so is everything else.

The 4850 should let you play Stalker at native res. Watch out though - the cooling solution on this card is hot and loud.

A 4850 will be a huge upgrade and one you'll appreciate, espically as gaming at native res really should always be a goal.

Heard about that- will defo need to get a aftermarket cooler.

Another question, what card manufacturer will let me do so, without voiding the warranty?

And what games would this card not be suitable for?

It will play anything at 1280 x 1024, and cope very well at 1680 x 1050.

No card really gets a proper grip on Crysis, but in my setup below I get just over 36fps at 1680 x 1050, High settings.

It's a huge step up from a 7900gto, but I would advise fitting an Accelero S1 to keep the temps down, and to keep it quiet.

4850 is silent and hot by design.

4870 is the loud one.

Doubt you will ever hear the stock 4850 cooler..........
