So I used to have a barclay card - about 2 years ago I canceled and made sure I kept the letter confirming that it was canceled. Just sorting through my paperwork now and while I have been traveling (for 6 months or so) they decided to reopen my account and send me a brand new card with a 2000 pound spending limit!

This must be illegal or something!?1 I called them to ask why I had been sent another card, they informed me that they had no record of me having canceled the card. I gave them the date of their letter and letter reference that was sent when I did cancel the card......they didnt have an explanation but said I would need to send them another letter if I want to cancel my new card.

I thanked the lady and hungup (no point in being rude to a phone monkey) - might call back to speak to a manager later on but to be honest I am disgusted. What if that card had been stolen - as I no longer have card protection any more (figured I wouldn't need it without the card :D) I could have ended up owing barclays 2000 pounds for their incompetence.

I must admit im a bit peeved - thoughts?

So if you spent money on the new card and also have a letter comfirming they the account is cancelled then to make you pay they wouldn't they have to produce a new signed credit agrement. Hmmm interesting

arff arff arrf

I elected do receive only a yearly statement with the rest being administered online.

Bah I hate finance institutions!

They're a credit card company. Why would they EVER cancel a card unless you practically threaten to go and personally kill the manager...

If they have your details, they'll just keep re-opening the account and sending you cards, hoping that you'll rack up vast amounts of debt that they can charge 23% interest on.

Thats their business model.....

You cancelled and have confirmation of the fact, they reopened and have no proof you ever received the card by the sound of things therefore if it had been stolen and used the entire responsibility would land squarely on their shoulders, in any case you are not responsible for card fraud if it had happened.

Barclays employees are targeted on product sales and get bonus's for opening new accounts/credit cards/loans etc etc etc. Something tells me someone is fudging their sales.

Isnt this an illegal right?
