Hiya

Got uni in about a month and going to purchase a macbook, or macbook pro or air. not decided! anyway, is there any deals coming up or going around at the moment? I heard in the states they were giving away free ipod with every purchase. anything similar over here?

cheers

Surprisingly you it can be worth buying a Mac from a hight street chain. One store will give you a free 2 or 3 year guarantee. But I doubt you will be able to take advantage of the educational discount. Another has the current range significantly cheaper than the Apple retail price. Becuase of the forum rules I can't say what the stores are, but have a look around at the usual suspects and you'll find the deals.

It looks like the macbook and macbook pro will undergo a significant case redesign. In which case, I would avoild both products until they have been out for a month or so. There were significant problems with macbook pros over heating after the transition to the intel chips. Rev 1 products always have a risk of being a bit flakey. Depends if having the most up to date machine is importnat to you.

still have problems with video cards now so i dont think it matters when you get them. I would wait for the new designs, plus you should get the 3year applecare very cheap with HE discount

I thought you get 3yrs warranty as standard when purchasing through HE. I know this was the case on my macbook pro I purchased a year ago.

This is still the case :)

"Special three year parts and labour coverage, with additional first-year warranty and support benefits, as standard" from their HE contract.

I don't think the MacBook or MacBook Pro will get a facelift in September never mind a complete overhaul. LED screened aluminium MacBooks? No time soon. According to MacWorld the Septemember event may be about iPods anyway!

Just get a MacBook unless you really need the power (and expenses and weight) of a pro. I'd avoid the Air as other than posing it is a niche product.

Is there any news on the "Back to school" promotion that Apple have done in the UK the last few years? It is along the same lines as the current US deal where you get a free iPod.

Has anybody heard any rumours or remembered when it was announced last year?

September time. Well it was last year when I got my MacBook and "free" iPod.

how about waitng a little as loads of MacBook owners will be selling for the new model? Prices will prob drop a fair bit in the 2nd hand Market.

Going there to by a Mac is like going to a cheap whorehouse and coming out with a classy hooker, sure it is a nice surprise but you still feel dirty and cheap afterwards. :p

LOL! :D

Anyways, I would wait on the new models, Alu macbook will be really nice, and you will regret getting the plastic one (current), or i would anyways...

The back Yo School, will probably be an iPod tbh, or an iphone :O I WISH!
