Im not one for reading so books are something i miss out on, prolly missed out on a lot of good scifi because i cant get away with books. I just cant seem to indulge myself into the world the book is supposed to create, i find my self just reading for the sake of reading and not involving myself with the story or atmosphere. The way i get around this is with audio books, they have the full indepth story and i can relax and involve myself in it aswell.
To the point at hand, ive watched the potter movies and fine them quite a good view so hearing that they wasnt a patch on the movies i wanted to experience them but i didnt want to spoil them with my poo reading technique.
Luckily i found the books online, not cheap but i decided to invest, ive done the first and im about a third through the second and i must say i amaizedby the extra content and detail think the first is around 9 hours long and the second around 18, longest being 23 or 24 hours long. Amaizing really and very good listning. Just thought id share!

Any suggestions for audio books welcome!

I'm the other way round find audio books completely dull and cant listen to more than 5 minutes and switch off. Really if you're that interested in something read it. Reading isnt easy and you need to learn it.

I love audio books. I found about 2 years ago that I couldn't find anything worth listening to on the radio and I listened to a Clive Cussler audio book. That got me hooked and I've not listened to music or radio in my car since. I have listened to (and have) loads of audio books (I hugely prefer unabridged version, to get the full detail). I've also found that I listen to books that I would never read so its expanded my enjoyment too.

BTW, I have got all the Harry Potter audio books and they are all great. I recommend you listen to the Stephen Fry read versions (the UK ones) rather than Jim Dale's (US) readings. Jim Dale really doesn't quite do it for me. He's voice is a little tremulous (he is quite old) and he has an annoying way of drawing out the pronounciation of "Harreeeeeeeeee" whenever he voices Hermione's part.

I have the first 5 books on cassette. About four. five years ago I used to fall asleep listening to them. Sad but true. I then broke my cassette player so stopped listening. I thought Stephen Fry was good for the voice, so much so that I expect the films to sound like him, kind of.

Audiobook suggestions:
Bill Bryson
Terry Pratchett
Mario Puzo
Douglas Adams
Ian Fleming
Michael Palin

I listen to a LOT of audiobooks. Much easier than reading while driving. ;)
I listen to many more classic radioshows though. I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again, I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, The Now Show, The Goon Show, Hancocks Half Hour etc....

Currently listening to the abridged version of Sir Winston Churchills Second World War.
Runtime is around 40 hours in total. It's impressive considering it's abridged!

If you like audiobooks - a subscription to Audible.co.uk may be worthwhile, especially if you have a compatible MP3 player.

OOH glad to know im not the only person that likes these, the missus thinks im a tad sad but hey. Ill take a look at audible, really enjoying potter at the moment and should take a couple of months to get through all of them.
