So I finally did it, I now possess the dream car i've always wanted.
No longer do I oogle at youtube videos or envy them in films.

It was back in may I made the jump, I had been looking around ebay for one and at the start I was looking for a right hand conversion but this was a hard task so I gave up on that.
There was absolutely no way I was going automatic. Had to be manual as that's part of the whole fun in driving, nothing less than a 5speed and I was looking for a Fastback or Shelby.

So I found one, restored in the 90's and appaently looked after well, 1967 Fastback but cloned to a Shelby GT350.
(Yes...for some reason the new paint job had GT500 put on it, maybe it was on it's way to another clone)
But that's not an issue.

So I contacted the seller and ask him all the questions I had and it sounded all okay and the guy who picked it up to check it also said it drove well and no problems.

So after 3 months, 3 months of waiting a week for a reply to a simple email or phone call, not being updated by the U.S Office on shipping details....it finally arrived.
I must say the UK office of the company who I shipped with must have been the most helpful company ever, props to the guy for sorting everything out for me.

So me and my friend go over in his car to go pick her up and bring her back down to Jersey.
When we get there she's in a really old warehouse but with lots of other newer mustangs and muscle cars.

I get into the car to get it out of the warehouse, having been sat still for 3months we hooked it up to a fork-lift and took a little to get her started but when she did..
Wooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Instant grin!

Now, the down sides.

-When I finally managed to get a good luck at her before driving, I could see the rolled arches have some how unrolled and scrape against the tyres, so we quickly found someone to
rolled them back but still had the issue with tyres rubbing on the arches slightly when at low speed and breaking a little heavy.

What the hell, he's missed that bit of info out! So they are non stock rims and tyres, they wall height looks a bit high.
So i'll either change the tyres, before that check for spacers and have a look at the suspension.

-At first I thought mainbeam wouldn't work but you have to press really hard, yes... the main beam is a button left of the clutch, under another pedal which does 1 wipe of the wipers.
It's a bit dangerous to be honest, might change it to a button on the dash.

-Reverse lights don't work.

-Horn didn't work but we found out it wasn't plugged in but on further inspection there seems to be a short and when I turn it sparks, so unplugged it.
But I have a new steering wheel and horn assembly coming down to pass DVS (like an MOT but we only do it once ever and that's it)

-Now one of the most anoying thing and potentially could have caused an accident, about 3/4 into the journey the front left wheel started wobbling and my friend infront said we need to pull over *NOW*.
Short story, the wheel nuts (lug nut) were the wrong way, only on that wheel. So we put them the right way around and its been fine ever since and have stayed right. I'm having these problems checked by a garage next week as one of the nuts absolutely will not come off and i'm not going to drive anymore it till I know it's ok!

- When I did get to Jersey and very luckily in Jersey, it seems the heater matrix is blocked, has blocked or stopped working because the overflow pipe comes into the car and out of the passenger side footwell onto the road below. So.. it pumped steaming hot coolant everywhere :(
I was getting so anoyed! But luckily living on a small island help is not far!

So I replaced the hose and refilled, but it still dumped it all onto the road.
Managed to bypass the heater and the loop is now airtight again and temps back to normal! yay!

Some minor issues which can be sorted easily, although I hate working with electrics so i'm getting a garage to sort the rest out.
It seems like the previous owner knew about it and he's no longer contactable.... wonder if there's anything I can do. What a tit :(

Once the wheel was sorted and the coolant loop problem was fixed, she drove very nicely, sounds like a beast and really gives some when you need it. The interior is very good.

I've had so many people come up and ask questions, people pulling next to me and asking me to give it some and it must be contagious because people go mental around it, fair few people just start doing doughnuts and burnouts and handbrake turns... crazy.

Kind of dissapointed in the problems I've had already although they are already existing and minor, shouldn't be a problem to sort the rest, I mean reverse lights/horn... nothing to lose sleep over ;)

I just can't wait till I can get it on the road, summer is running away!

wow lucky you caught that wheel!

looks sweet, should be great once you fix all the little niggles :)

The car itself was £16,900.
Then there's container freight About £900, import tax 10% , GST 3% (grr tax on tax)

I also had to pay VAT and UK Import duty but that gets refunded as i'ts not staying in the U.K.

I just noticed, does the front look a bit low compared to the back arch? might be why it's rubbing the wheels.

Oh and yes, I am now broke :D:D

great but to be honest its a good price and its a 40 year old car (restored or otherwise) so i wouldn't feel too bad about a few problems.

what size engine is it?

I am missing the essential info aren't I?

5L (4942ish cc) 302ci v8
Getting it dyno'd/rolling road on Sept 13th to see how many ponies I have left, although it's had a few bits changed, hooker performance headers/flowmaster exhaust, Holley 4 barrel carb, electric ignition, alu cylinder heads. Still trying to decode and find out stuff :)

Seems to have about a 75ishL Tank, drove it about a mile from picking it up at the docks and filled it up with half a jerry can. Managed to make it 200 miles, then around Jersey a bit and it's still 3/4 full.

 800 mile range on 75L? It sounds like the sensor is broken to me to be honest matey.

Yeah.... Do you think I should run it till it's empty just to make sure it works?
Although it definatly goes to "E" when the engine is off and when the tank is full it's..yeah at "F" and it has slowly been going down to what I can estimate at qtr off full. Will take some pics ;P Not sure how wrong it can go. Definately can't do that many miles!

I know people avoid running empty because crap could get in the pipes.

Something is definately up mate, to get 800 miles from that tank from brimmed to empty would take 50MPG average. Not happening with an old 5L V8 petrol. I'd expect less than half that at approx 300mile range.
