Why does nowhere sell black curtains?!

All i want are plain black curtains. I've tried John Lewis, Bentalls, Primark and even a shop called Heals and they all say the same thing:

"I'm afraid we don't have any black ready made curtains but we can make them for you?"

Best quote i got was £170 from Bentalls! :eek:

Know anywhere that sells cheap black curtains?

I was going to say just make them, but I doubt you could cheaper than those argos ones at £30

What are they for? Go to a .... Draper(?) or some place that sells fabric cut to size from a big roll.

I wanted something to block at the annoying-as-hell streetlight outside my window at an old house, so I just bought something like 8' x 4' bit of fleecy black cloth and wedged it in place = win.

Cost:£12.

Have you thought about looking at the well known high street shop with the big catalogue, they have lots of black curtains

If you want them to really black out the light you can add your own lining. Lining fabric is very cheap and it's easy to make your own linings too.

I have brown curtains and they are as good as black-out. They also look better because they aren't black. you'd have more luck looking for dark brown, I imagine.

dunelm mill are reasonably good value for blackout cloth if that's what you're after but like I said, if it's just black curtains you'd struggle to beat £30

WWII blackout curtains is what you require. You are about 70 years too late.

For a bedroom as the current curtains are awful and i think have mould on them! :eek:

Story time! \o/

I am slowly moving into my new University room which is in a rented property. My 'furniture' is white with gold handles, yellow-ish walls and a light brown carpet. So i have swapped the lampshade for a black one, aiming for black curtains and turning it into a sort of 'art deco' type of room. Black would go wonderfully. Oh and the sun rises onto my window so i need to block out some of the light in the mornings!

just cos the curtains are black does not mean they will block out the light.

For that you need to ensure they are lined. and for real light blocking capabilities you'll want to make some liners for them out of blak out lining, which is nice and cheap.

The high street place have quite a selection of curtains and having bought several pairs myself, I can say that they are decent quality and a good price.

The lining you can get from a decent fabric shop.

Indeed. I don't want blackout curtains but something close will suffice. I'll certainly look around and try and get some samples or whatever. Good call on Rosebys though, completely forgot about them.
