They see me rollin' (in a now-barginous, '90s luxobarge style)

With all the reliability woes I had with my Mk2 (2003) A8 4.2Q I wouldn't touch one of these with a barge pole no matter how cheap they are now.

Iirc you can get a 2.0 A8 in Krautland but not over here, same for example goes for the 725tds / 740tds from BMW both deemed not suitable for the UK market

To OP, it indeed is amazing what £2k can get you these days! :)

Really? Christ. Who on earth thought of installing a tiny little 2.0 into a flagship model?

True enough, although I recall reading about the e38 728i on launch thinking "**** that'll be slow" but having ran one, I can honestly say it was not so bad at all... The M52 6 is a peach of an engine, that must help.

I'd shudder to think what either a 725tds drives like or, a 2.0 A8 both would be challenging trucks and little else I'd imagine! :p:D

i bet the tractor units are amazing with no trailer connected

The are amazing, but actually not quite as much fun as you'd imagine solo - The traction control has to work overtime, otherwise, you find yourself unintentionally doing 180's! - They handle & put the power down much better with a few tons over the drive axle i.e. an empty flat trailer, you can have some real "fun" if you fancy.... :D

How come they are V8s an not V12s? V12s too large?

Bigger engines are not really required, the 16 litre R620 produces 3,000Nm of torque between 1,100 and 1,400 revs. More than enough to pull well over 150tons, which is right at the upper weight limit of what the vast majority of UK raods can take. :)

The V8 is an engine, the A8 a car that can have the V8......

the V8 was also a model which preceeded the A8
