Tea - milk first or last?

This isn't a "how to make a cup of tea" question, (I actually dislike tea, so I can't actually really give a verdict myself) but a few people are always arguing (that I know), does the milk go in first or last?

I have even googled, and it seems that people are even doing scientific tests on this O.o, and they are roughly about 50 50. Does any one know this?

Basically

Person 1 believes Coffee = Milk first, Tea = Milk last
Person 2 Believes Coffee = Milk Last, Tea = Milk First.

A rather odd post I agree - just wondering if anyone actually knew for sure (who work as chefs, restaurants or whatever).

Theoretically id go with milk last in both as the hot base and cold milk will cause the milk to mix better (unless diffirent densities are involved in which case I am out of the court in physics). But that depends what you want to taste.

If Im making tea in a pot then the milk goes in the cup before the tea. If I'm making tea in a mug then the milk goes in last.

It's all about allowing the tea to brew without cooling the water down.

Coffee is the work of Satan, and I presume you are talking about instant coffee, in which case it doesn't make any difference. My wike likes coffee with warm milk, so the milk does in first as it goes in the microwave.

I'm afraid they're both wrong. The proper way is no milk.

Milk used to be added to tea first, because it prevented pottery cracking from the boiling water by cooling it slightly, just enough to take the edge off.

I've put the milk in last for the past 40 years, purely out of habit.

I'm not overly concerned as to the order though. I probably wouldn't even notice the difference.

How can you tell how much milk to put in if you put it in first?

what a silly question!
how do you know you have poured the right amount of water in before the milk? you would do the same for milk.

For tea you should put the milk in first as it stops the boiling water scorching the tea. For coffee it should be milk last.

Tea: bag+sugar, add water, bag out, milk in
Real coffee: coffee in, then milk - stir.
instant coffee: coffee+milk in, mix - add water, mix more

For your average tea drinker, I doubt either way would make much difference. So lets all agree, and move on.

0. boil kettle
1. shake teabag to get rid of the tea dust
2. put teabag in
3. put sugar in (optional)
4. pour water from about 15-25cm, directly onto the teabag
5. pulsate the water with a teaspoon
6. remove teabag
7. add milk & stir

I'm with person one.

I think if you put boiling water on instant coffee it makes it taste a bit wrong.

Milk with the tea bag in the cup is just plain wrong, never had a good cup of tea when its made like that.

tea is for lady boys, real men drink coffee GRRR. If I make tea for my wife i put the tea in first but only because it's worse that way and if i do it nicely she will ask me more often.
