Hi all

I am thinking of getting a 8800GTX to go with my GTS 320(for physx)

But would I see a noticeable difference between my GTS 320 and the GTX?

I play at 1280x1024 most of the time on a 21inch CRT.
and would the GTX make the games smother in play?

Since OCUK are selling the GTX cheap I think it may be a good upgrade.
what do you guys think?

It'd be a pretty good upgrade from the GTS 320 to the 8800 GTX (40%-ish upgrade when not memory bound? juding by: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2007/02/13/nvidia_geforce_8800_gts_320mb/8), might want to consider the 9800 GTX+, I think that's a bit faster than the 8800 GTX (though probably relative to its cost by the looks of it, so whatever suits you I guess).

I would suggest homg radeon 4800 series!1!111!! but given your intentions I guess the nvidia options are the most reasonable since ATi and Nvidia drivers are hardly known for working in perfect harmony. :p

Do you play any physx games. If not i would just sell the gts320 and get a 4850 which will be more of an upgrade. I can't see to many games making use of physx for quit a while yet.

I did that very upgrade and for many games it was a noticable diference, however there have been other cards released recently (notably by ATI) which may be a better bet however there isn't much that can beat the 8800 gtx on performance at the price if you are thinking of getting the one on this weekend only deal.

8800GTX is an superb upgrade. i done that 1 year ago from BFG 8800GTS 320MB OC, to 8800GTX.

and my GOD that's a HUGE upgrade. from 10FPS in World in Conflict all highest no AA to 20FPS 16xQAA :D

Yea its faster than a 8800gtx. I take it you won't be gaming at high res as thats pretty much there only downfall when aa is applied. If you must use the gts for physx then this is the fastest nvidia card in that price range.

At the resolution your are playing at, yes.

That would be a major step up in performance. So would the 4850 as well.

Look at the 4850 reviews and compare it to the 9800GTX with the res and the games you play. The 9800GTX+ is only slightly faster than the 9800GTX (up to 5% from memory)

The NV physx may not come to much and my GTS 320 is not worth
that much,so I thought try physx and see what happens.

I see there are some 8800GTXs in the MM :)

im using a bfg ocx edition 9800gtx
its factory overclocked with their ocx label which takes it to just above stock 9800gtx+ speed

then i put a 11% increase on that with a conservative overclock using stock cooling and it topped the benchmarks of my 4850 [i had one for a week and dint like it]
i would say its just a few fps behind a 4870 now with the aftermarket cooler i have

but it would be nothing you would tell the difference in with real world performance

imo
get the 9800gtx+ as its the same price and a fair bit faster than the 8800gtx

im thinking of giving it a go with an 8800gs as the ppu
dont know yet though
