Tea - milk first or last?

If Im making tea in a pot then the milk goes in the cup before the tea. If I'm making tea in a mug then the milk goes in last.

It's all about allowing the tea to brew without cooling the water down.

Agreed.:)

0. boil kettle
1. shake teabag to get rid of the tea dust
2. put teabag in
3. put sugar in (optional)
4. pour water from about 15-25cm, directly onto the teabag
5. pulsate the water with a teaspoon
6. remove teabag
7. add milk & stir

step 0?

Coffee is the work of Satan, and I presume you are talking about instant coffee, in which case it doesn't make any difference. My wife likes coffee with warm milk, so the milk does in first as it goes in the microwave.

Exactly like this (except I don't have a wife). The rest of it is bang on, it's all about whether you're using a teapot or not.

Agree, I worry about the amount of these silly posts appearing on OCUK now lol

Not really a "silly" post...

Seriously do a google of this, people really have spent a lot of time researching it. Besides, I was trying to settle a real life argument on it :P

I think I have enough opinions though to draw a conclusion, so mods can feel free to close it as and when they wish, it seems most people agree that milk goes in last (assuming it is made in a cup).

Asprilla's got the nail on the head

teabags need the heat from the water to get the full taste out..

Tea: Bag >>> Hot Water >>> Remove Bag >>> Sugar >>> Milk

Coffee: Coffee >>> Milk >>> Mix >> Hot Water >>> Sugar

I think with tea you put the milk in after the bags been brewed because, as many of you have already said, you can judge it better this way.

But with coffee I always put the milk and the coffee granuals (in the office anyway) mix the two and sugar if wanted then add the hot water as it makes it nice and creamy/frothy if you make a paste first :)

milk last, don't be silly.

1 - you don't put milk in a tea pot, why would you put it in the mug?
2 - You want the tea to come out of the leaves better, why dilute it with milk?

Depends on how you are making it. If you are making a pot then milk first then pour the tea in, if you are making it in the cup then milk last.
