Asus P5E-VM HDMI Intel G35 Micro-ATX (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £58.49

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) £23.39

Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 LGA775 'Wolfdale' "Overclocking E0 Stepping" 3.33GHz (1333FSB) - Retail £139.49

Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (ST3500320AS) £36.89

Hiper 425W HPU-4S425 Silent ATX2.01 PSU £17.99

Asus VW202S 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black £107.99

Arctic Cooling Alpine 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775) £5.39

Not too fussed about overclocking a large amount but just want to make sure that the ram isn't totally mismatched with the motherboard/cpu?

Does it have to be Micro-ATX motherboard?

I'd also get the E8400 instead of E8600, cheaper and I'm sure it'll reach those speeds no problems.

PSU is questionable...

The Hiper PSU might be fine, just keep an eye on it. At the first sign of it being on the way out, replace it since you can actually damage components by not supplying enough power to them. Also, no graphics card? Does that board have integrated graphics or something?

But as to your question: no, none of those components are mismatched.

Id get a bigger cooler too...

That one i dont think is any ebtter than the stock cooler... (artic freezer 7 is where it starts getting worth getting a new one)

wanted a separate cooler because the intel HSF is noisy - I need a quiet setup.

wanted a micro-atx motherboard because i'm building a small setup.

don't want a graphics card because I don't play games - integrated is sufficient for my needs.

the psu had good reviews on the sales section of this site... the main reason I got it is because it's quiet and my current ATX psu only has P4 motherboard connections (and no SATA). Hmm, maybe I'll call OC up now and change it? What's a good alternative that's a similar price?

The G35 has an Intel GMA X3500 DirectX10 integrated graphics processor. If I were him I'd have gone for a G45 board with the newer faster X4500 though.

If you're after an integrated solution, the new G45 chipset motherboards should be out soon and will have better onboard graphics/features.

As for good reviews on the site, very little on there has bad reviews - (salt, pinch, etc). These forums are the place to look for reviews, opinions, etc.

p.s. The Noctua is very quiet and has great cooling as well as being easy to fit. Just check it will fit in your case/mobo.

ALL power supply manufacturers claim their PSUs are quiet. In truth, it's pretty much pot luck whether you get a quiet one or a loud one. I agree with the other poster that an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro is a better heatsink than what you've ordered, but I don't know if it will necessarily fit in a small case. You'll have to work out the dimensions yourself.

As for an alternative PSU, anything by Corsair, Tagan, OCZ are supposedly pretty solid. For a low power rig like yours, 450W will be plenty, so a possibility is this one.

In my experience the Intel HSF is actually pretty quiet, it is cooling performance that it isn't so good (adequate at stock).

The site reviews aren't worth the paper they are written on.

Looking at the prices of the parts he's chosen - hardly seems worthwhile downgrading anymore!

Just the CPU I'd drop to a E8400, rest I'd spend a bit more on, especially PSU.

It's not question about luck (outside lemons) when you buy one which has been tested to be quiet...

And no! Reviewers who keep above 1000rpm as acceptable for 120mm fan aren't qualified to say anything as quiet!

hmm the price I'm paying for the cooler is so cheap that even if it's slightly quieter its money well spent.

I need a fast processor because I'm going to be using this pc solely for electronic music production with programs like Ableton Live and Steinberg Cubase SX.

The PSU is quiet according to the site reviews. They might be mainly positive but why would people mention that they're quiet if they're not? I've seen lots of 5 star reviews that also mention the negatives. Anyway, it's so cheap it doesn't particularly matter either way - its just to tide me over while I save up for a nice Micro-ATX case/psu.

Unless it blows up my motherboard lol

I would expect nothing less from a Hiper.
