I apologise if I'm creating one thread after another over my little problem with university and course exclusion; First and Second thread. It is afterall, quite a pivotal point of my life and I much appreciate the wider public forum users to share their thoughts on this...

I've made a little back up plan in case my letter to the Head of School fail to convince them to change their minds, by applying to 3 different university for their Pharmaceutical Science Course, Hull, Brighton and Kingston.

Brighton have rejected me - asking me to go Open University. (Basically, *** off)
Kingston have yet reply (would like to go there, closer and they've got a great TaeKwonDo Team to train with)
And Hull have accepted me into year 2 - which is great! I've got a Plan B.

However, I've hardly heard anything about them apart from some students saying they have excellent facilities... So Hull University Students (especially the Pharmaceutical Students), what's it like up North?

I will have to move up there and live in uni accommodation e.t.c. anything to take note of?

Im about to start my 4th year at Hull, have really enjoyed it, great uni and great people. Sadly you will always here negative attitudes towards hull, not sure why, maybe the city isnt so great, but the uni and the nighlife are really good IMO.

Cant say i know anything about the Pharmaceutical dept though.

First year accomadation wise, they have a place called The Lawns, which is basically a huge field with lots of student blocks in, and you will have a lot of fun there ;) there are other options as well around the university.

I personally think the University is rubbish - but that's probably due to my department being a load of crap. Lawns is good! Ferens > All. Keep that in mind.

The city is depressing, endless decaying urban sprawl (in my eyes), I hate this place and can't wait to get away. That said, there are some nice places, and there are people who enjoy it (otherwise they wouldn't live here ;)) it's definitely like Marmite - either love it or hate it. I choose the latter, but who knows, you might be of the former.

I've been up there once, last year - it was a wet day so not a good way to make my impression of Hull. I know it's abit "Northern Industrial" like, but I was around town and Princess Quays?

So Lawn and Feren is somewhere to note about.

Because the course is a 4 year course, well, will be 3 years for me as I fast track into year 2 - I'm kinda worried if it is like Marmite, love it or hate it. As it's over 300miles away from "Home" and especially so as I'll not really have a chance to visit before I say Yes to take on Plan B.

Anyone else have an opinion?

Im going into my 3rd and final year doing comp sci. Its a nice place, princess quays good, a new shopping center has been built into the train/bus station "St. Stephens". Things are looking up for Hull to be honest, especially with them entering the premiership. Should bring abit more money into the area.

The uni's quite good to be fair. Nightlifes great.

I was there from 2001 - 2004. Loved my time there, sure parts of the city aren't nice, but most big cities have crappy areas. The town centre is nice, the old town has some fantastic pubs. The campus itself is very nice, as is the surrounding area. I was at the Lawns in my first year, Cottingham, the village it's in is very nice too.

Think I must be in the same lectures as you :p

I did Comp Science at Hull a few years ago.

Great Uni, and its already good reputation is getting better.

Ive not heard much about Kingston, but Medicine at Hull is well respected.

Just a thought but have you done any work experience at your local hospital?
This time of the year my phone is red hot with students wanting work experience for UCAS applications and I do my best to please everybody.
They all tell me that if they don't get it then they won't get places.
The Pharmacy Dept at the UHNS are brilliant and are always ready to help UCAS applications.

I've done a good 3 months Hospital work experience during A-Levels, when I wanted to go into Medicine, these work experiences isn't needed for Pharmaceutical Science...

Plus, I work for the local council as an Elderly Day Care Assistant, the social/bed side manners were learnt more from there than Hospital Work Experience where it felt more like shadowing a nurse than a Doctor.

I've just joined the NHS in hull trust as a pharmacy technician and Im studying part time at Bradford college/uni and its going well. Supposedly one of the best places to go to learn anything to do with pharmacy in conjunction with leeds uni, both 1/2 trains a way from hull at best.

Cheers for the info :)

Also, anyone seen Taylor Court in Hull Uni, how are the facilities like?
