UPDATED: Loads of new phenomenal tech on CLOUD base rendering and AMD Cinema 2.0!!!
Okay guys,
I have to admit this has to be my greatest post ever, i don't know if you been following the latest PC industry news lately.
Cloud based rendering is rendering done on a server farm or otherwise known as a render farm.
This company called OTOY is developing super computer power with AMD as part of cinema 2.0
They have a virtual world which is identical to the Matrix in terms of looks. It's called City Scape, and liveplace.com will be fully operational soon where you can learn more about it.
city scape runs in any browser using no plug in, super computing power will work on any device that connects to the internet, like a PDA, iphone, set top box, computer, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360. All that is required is a internet connection and browser.
Here is a 14 minute video leaked, incredible is all i can say!!!!!

Light stage and voxel rendering which is used to create these highly detailed worlds that go beyond the uncanny valley. Where you start to not be able to distinguish the difference between the real word and the virtual world, oh just like Morpheus words. But really.
Paul Debevec created light stage at USC. as well as image base rendering/hdr and the bullet time as seen in the Matrix. Has used light stage for movies like spiderman 2 and 3. Now it's been created for video games, and this company otoy is using it, it allows you to create life like face and body models and motion capture where you cannot tell the difference whether there real or not.
Check out all the videos to learn more, the 14 minute video was created using a ATI 512MB 1900xr, the video is 15 months old, the creator came forward and said if you like that video which doesn't use voxel rendering and light stage then you would be far more impressed with what they have now which they will show later this year.
Right now they are using 3 RV770 gpu's to render the scenes, with total ray tracing. Then there will be multiple gpu and cpu's from AMD. Remember AMD bought ATI. Then this will all go into a server farm, the only problem right now is bandwidth. They have created test servers in America which have a 12-17 millisecond lag, and in Japan they have 100 millisecond lag. But bandwidth is improving. They said that Otoy allows 220 fps while allowing tens of thousands of players online at once on a open world server. They said as well with a 6 mbps connection you can get high definition quality at 60 fps streamed from the render farm.
The 14 minute video was also being streamed to a Treo 700 PDA. Now that's just amazing!
They said that the virtual world is just the start. In the future PC games will be streamed from this system creating one unified machine, consoles are finished with this tech. PC gaming takes the crown again like it was before consoles were around.
Check it out now and tell me what you think
