With the prices of the 280 down to a more reasonable figure, has anyone already got or thinking of getting a pair for SLi?

haven't got one, but read some of the reviews online (guru3d did a great review with GTX280's in SLI and tri-SLI)

nearly 40fps in crysis @ fully maxed setting and 2560x1600 and that was with tri-SLI. I mean that is 100% playable, and when you see the way it scales (as in the way the FPS jump up from single, to dual to tri, you can see its scaling well)

the gtx280 scaled amazingly over SLI and tri-SLI, from what the review was saying, i'd say do it if you can :D

Obviously gonna be **** hot but cant really see the value tbh. I mean a 4870x2 is cheaper and will handle pretty much everything even at 2560x1600. Will have a huge e-peen tho!

Sod the ePeen, a 280GTX SLi setup is not really needed for gaming now is it?

I can't see the majority of peeps needing more than one?

3 cards to play 1 nice looking game with not so good gameplay. Thats what i call a waste of money.

I've already got 2 and running in sli. Runs great and before any one says it No I didn't wont Ati.
It is a new rig but already thinking of changing the cpu for something bigger not sure what yet tho and maybe water cooling.

You'll also need a case with good airflow and a pretty beefy PSU to run both at the same time. So there might be hidden costs. It will annihilate anything you throw at it though =)

Nothing lags the 280 on a 24" atm, and wont for years by the looks of upcoming games.

(This seems like the first time in ages no huge PC exclusive with mega graphics is in development)

30" however you would probably gain a lot by having two.

My 280 coped with 2560x1600 well, even running most games maxed out with AA + 16xAF. Only game it couldn't run at that res was Crysis (obviously).

I wouldn't even bother with two of them yet, not until more games come out that are more stessful, and by then the 280 should be even cheaper.

Given that all graphics hardware depreciates like Zimbabwean dollars, it makes sense to only pay as much as you need to in order to run the games you want to play. Paying more in the hope of future-proofing yourself better is a false economy.

A single GTX280 is fine for just about everything except Crysis now so stick with that.
