All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

More BS IMO

the sun is filled with nothing but BS as well

(hmm ive used BS a lot in my last few posts wish i could type the whole word :()

The Bulgarian hitman has been edging ever closer to Old Trafford over the past few days, as negotiations between United and Spurs have entered the latter stages.

It has been reported that only a fee remains to be agreed, and that the eventual sum will likely be a compromise between the £25million offer and the £28million asking price.

However, the Lilywhites are reluctant to strengthen their Premier League rivals and are supposedly entertaining the option of selling to Barcelona instead.

But latest reports claim Berbatov is eager to join the Red Devils and has made his desire known to the men in charge at White Hart Lane.

"Dimi’s decided to put in a transfer request," a friend of the ex-Bayer Leverkusen player told The Sun.

"He can’t wait to go to Old Trafford and play for United.

"He feels he behaved professionally throughout this period. He has never spoken publicly on the situation out of respect for Tottenham.

"But he does not want to miss out on the start of United’s season and he feels that was his only option left."

I agree with more Sem in it being BS mixed with a bit of HS for good measure . If they are in the latter stages of negotiation with only the fee to agree what else have they been negotiating

In other news Rafa nearly quit because he couldn't get Barry Talk about toys being thrown out of the pram. Either put up the cash or shut up, simple as.

Personally I find it very hard to believe that he would quit over something like that.
Sure, he's probably frustrated, but if every manager quit over not being able to buy players for £18m then there wouldn't be many left.

Toys out the pram? Put up the cash or shut up??

Benitez was willing to pay £18m for Barry as he is seen as a missing link in the team, but owners and Parry believed 18m was too much so wouldnt back him with the cash and mucked about.

How is this a case of 'put up the cash or shut up'? It wasnt him stalling the deal, it was everyone but him.

Thats a good enough reason for most managers to walk tbh, the fact hes not being supported by the club.
'Sources close to the manager' - We'v all heard that before. Crap article tbh.

C'mon though, it's not as if the board have been overly tight with the purse strings. His net spend over the last few years has been considerably higher than his rival, Wenger, and he's been backed enough to have a pair of £20m strikers. It's not like he's only been given £5m a year to spend.

You are correct they have backed him considerably (esp considering Wenger) but considering the present TV deal, the EPL and CL money , and where Liverpool have to aim for, £20m or so for experienced players is the minimum they should expect to pay

Maybe Barry is the wrong player / overpriced - but the fact is the manager wanted him, and Parry etc should respect that. From the EPL point of view Rafa hasnt done particularly well it has to be said (maybe its something more deep rooted in Liverpool that they havent competed in the EPL for nigh on 20 years) but he is still clearly ahead of 5th/6th club even with his curious selections

How I see it anyway :)

Nothing in that article suggests Rafa wanted to quit because he personally didn't want to pay the price for Barry, where did you get that idea from?

Maybe I oversimplified it a little but it's poor for Benitez to consider leaving the club because the owners/financiers wouldn't pay what Villa have asked for Barry. And before anyone get's all whollier than though saying it's Villa or O'Neill who have been messing anyone about, let's not forget they are the selling club. If it's £x one day and £y the other than that is there perogative.

All we have heard is that Villa have said that Liverpool have never met their valuation. At no point have we heard Liverpool come out and say they had met the terms Villa set down.

Word on the street is that Ameobi is set to reject his move to Ipswich. His contract expires next summer, I guess he's thinking he can sit around picking up his premiership wages each week for not much work and then get another very nice contract at whoever he moves to on a bosman.

Hope we don't sign him.
