Well, what a final.

He could obviously go faster too.

Does anyone think the Jamaicans are clean?

For such a small country getting 3 men into the final is an amazing achievement.

He doesn't look really 'roided, but things are moving on from steroids now.

I really WANT him to be clean. If he is, then its so beneficial to the sport.

Hes so far in front it makes you (me) wonder.

I'd like to think he is, problem is these days is there is no 100% way of proving it, only he knows if he's clean.

It's naive in the extreme to think the testers are up with the drug companies so any clean tests are only clean for the stuff they know about, they would never have caught the BALCO cheats (Chambers, Marion Jones, Tim Montgomery etc) if someone hadn't have sent them a vial of the drug.

It's a shame this comes up and has contributed to athletics decline tbh no one can be sure what they are seeing is real.

Maybe. I hope he's clean.

I hesitate to mention it but I can't help but think it's no coincidence that Jamaicans do very well at sprinting. They have a great national training programme for track events.

I hesitate to say this as it's not something I know a lot about and the very idea offends some people - another aspect possibly could be genetics / eugenics. Whether you like the idea or not, many Jamaicans will be descended from slaves. Some slaves would have been selectively bred for physical prowess. Similarly African Americans have historically done well at the 100m sprint.

Do people whose ancestors have remained in Africa do as well as those who were shipped off to the west, given access to the same training facilities? I dunno - just a thought.

If my wife and I were to have a kid, and Usain Bolt and Torri Edwards had a kid and both were given the same training, who would you expect to win a 100m race by the time they were 20?

Not a chance, they just haven't caught him yet or the stuff he's using. I remember the last conversation like this in SA on a sprinter when people thought he was clean only to be caught a year or so later Gatlin I think it was.

Two hours after breaking the world record at the Beijing Summer Olympics Bolt's agent recieved a phonecall from the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings, a professional (american) football team who currently play as past of the USA's National Football Team. The phonecall is said to have offered Bolt a place in the team as starting Running Back.

He must be then, any sprinter who is on drugs gets asked to play in the NFL. :D ;)

Genetics and stuff like slavery causing migration must have a lot to do with it.

Why do African Americans and Caribbean natives dominate sprinting but actual Africans dominate distance running and you never see a Jamaican 10000m runner?

Why can't white men run as quick as black men?

Why are there no Black swimmers (apart from Eric the Eel :p)

It can't all be cultural preference, there is something physically different about different races of people. I guess there must have been studies on it and there is probably some reasons explained somewhere on the net.

I think he is clean for sure, i'm just dissapointed he didn't put 100% in all the way, he slacked off at around 85m and still beat the WR! Imagine what time he could have set if he had gone all out. The man is a legend already for sure.

Looking forwards to his 200m.

It's a shame but atheletics is tarnished now. If someone effortlessly smashes a record people start asking questions.

Enjoy the win for what it was.... truely spectacular!

I personally don't think he his on drugs, it just seems a natural talent with dedicated training.... I hope I am not wrong.

You could also ask the same question about Rebecca Adlington with her recent performances or any of the British Cycling team, though I know that BC has a strict NO drugs policy or the rowing team who got gold today.... are they using?

The 100m final was entirely made up of Afro-Caribbean and African-Americans.

The African record holder, Olusoji Fasuba, has a Jamaican mother.

Has a white guy ever run 100m in under 10 flat?
