Is Usain Bolt clean?

I'm guessing you're trolling and referring to race but I'd also like to point out that the last olympic champion over 100m was cheating, as were Tim Montgomerie, Marion Jones, Linford Christie, Merlene Ottey, Ben Johnson, Dennis Mitchel, Kelly White etc.....

And carl lewis..

Like most of us have said, we would love Bolt to be clean.

I reckon he is.

As for the female swimmers, people are already calling for the new Speedo swimsuit to be banned because it offers such an advantage.

i think he could have done a time near 9.10 if he kept on going

Hmm I think you might be getting a little carried away there! :p

He only pulled up the last 10m (despite still going very fast due to the momentum) so I rekon flat out he is capable of around 9.61 - 9.62.

Shaving .5 of a second off is not humanly possible!

I disagree. There is still, technically, a lot more to be done.
I'm sure it was only Ben Johnson who I have seen use the blocks to a big big advantage, using them to spring forward in a huge bound, i bet a few current sprinters could benefit from a similar start style.

It was good to see only two Americans in the final. Answering the original question, yes I think he is clean.

Taking 0.5 a second off is insane surely! That would be a time of around 9.1 (Bolt can run faster that what he did today). If you look that in 12 years the world record has only come down from 9.84 to 9.69.

To go from 9.69 to anyway near 9.1/9.2 just isnt possible in my opinion. Not until we have evolved a little more anyway!

Once upon a time they said that breaking the 4 minute mile wasn't humanly possible. We've knocked more than a few seconds off that one.

Once upon a time people said that if you did a breath hold dive to greater than 30m your lungs would collapse.

Records fall, quite spectacularly sometimes.

Its a fair point, never say never etc etc. But Im sure I read somewhere that with human reaction time and all that jazz, a scientist came out and said that it was humanly impossible to break 9.5 seconds.

Dont get me wrong, the record will be broken and broken soon. But to go down to anywhere near what some above have been saying I think is highly highly unlikely.

I'm guessing you're narrow minded and can't see past a race argument

Who said anything about race? He won the race and 10 minutes later a thread on if he's clean or not? Because the past winners were on drugs doesn't me he should be lumped in the same category.

i'm quite suprised by some of the comments to be honest.

I believe he is clean. However, i'm sure the jamaican's have no internal drug testing in place, so they are tested less often than other countries.

Comparing phelps to bolt? Are you silly? Phelps is a known product, years of being at the top. Bolt is relivitely new to the top yet he is ripping the opposition apart!

No, are you? Marion Jones was a "known product", years of being at the top. Didnt' stop her from being a cheat.

Bolt is not relatively new either. He's been through the junior ranks and he's been ripping the opposition apart for a few months now.

My point was Phelps achievement is more "superhuman" than Bolts. If anything I would check him for drugs first. Bolt is anatomically different to the other sprinters...that is where he gets he's advantage from.

To question he's integrity 10 minutes after winning based on nothing else but how spectacular he's performance was is silly

But look further back than that, it was over 10s! all but 2 in the final today went under 10s didnt they?

Nutrition is getting better, personal specific training based on better anatomical and physiological science is getting better.
Tracks are getting better, stadiums are becoming better. It all adds a little (in this case takes a little) to the time.
It wont happen for a few years yet, but come 2016 Olympics i bet the WR is under 9.3.

To start debating if he's using drugs or not a few minutes after winning is premature.

The fact is though that Phelps has won his medals by very close margins whilst Bolt won without putting in much effort at all.

Also Phelps has only won so many medals because he was capable of entering so many races. If athletics was a sport that had so many different types of sprints and so many different types of distances than Im sure we would see (or already have seen) a similar achievment to Phelps.

Your point about Bolt being anatomically different is also true about Phelps. Much has been talked about his "odd" shape. He has a very long body and very short legs which just act as like a motor. It is quite unique and it is why he is so successfull.

I agree that going on about drugs atm is a bit premature. He will be tested if he hasnt already. I'm sure i heard that Powell had been tested numerous times since arriving in China even prior to his first heat!

Not 9.1? ;):p

He also has relatively small feet, only size 14. Thorpe motored along with size 17's!!

yeah, but since when has that been a criteria for doping suspicion? He only won it so easily becase Powel was poor. If powel ran under 9.74 it wouldn't have looked so easy and he wouldn't have been show boating at the end.

I completely agree which is why I'm surprised the same argument isn't applied to Bolt. I know it's early days but damn..."is bolt on drugs" questions already?!
