If you're worried about them lacking bass don't get the HD595s, mine have no bass whatsoever.

Using a headphone amp? Will bring it out more, without booming and distorting, like you get when increasing bass control. Grados work well from portable devices, have a pair of Grados myself.

I use HD595's with my D2 and they do have bass. It's not their forte but it is there. I'm looking at a pair of Denons as an upgrade, specifically to kill the leakage of the Senns.

Gordon.

The Allesandros, Audio technicas and Grados are the only ones in that list that are generally fine unamped (by reputation).

Out of interest, were you thinking of ordering the Allesandros from the USA?

If you spend another £10 you can get some Audio Technica's ATH A900's. Very nice cans, though they do lack bass compared to a lot of other cans which might sound weird if you're used to quite a lot. They're much comfier than my other DT 770 Pro's, though I still think the Pro's sounded better.

I'd recommend Denon D2000s if you don't mind paying an extra few quid. They were absolutely brilliant when I had them, the second best headphones I've tried. I prefer the HD650s but not because they're better, they just sound different to the Denon's and I prefer the Sennheiser's sound.

Faulty then?

Doubt it, HD595 bass is weak. So if you compare them to a speaker system with a subwoofer, they're going to sound like there is no bass at all.

I have them and think they are pretty good bass wise, of course comparing them to a speaker system with a separate subwoofer is going to result in a dramatic difference.

Clearly you are not using a high quality DAC/Amp. Use one and then try and say the same thing.

HD595's need to be driven properly or they sound naff.

I have had a pair of MS1's for a few years now & while I can't say how they compare to other cans I do think they sound great. A bit on the flimsy side though, I've had to use a bit of super glue here & there on my set. Still I'd recommend them.

alessandro ms1 or Goldring dr150 will be great unamped personally i think you should look at some canal phones for an mp3 player though something like ultimate ears super fi 5 Pro or Westone UM1 have a look on the headfi forums.

i wouldnt say they have mountains of bass, my 650's are also a little light at the bottom end. certainly below 30hz isnt their forte and compared to other cans or even my sony ex085 earphones they are light.

hmm i would like to know to to get the most out of mine hooked up to x-fi X-Fi Elite Pro , fine tuneing a few settings helps but allways wonder if a amp would help as well

They're going through a regular hi-fi amp (Yamaha AX-396) but not a headphone amp.

My £17 quid PX-100s have (a lot) more bass. :S

Probably why then, headphone amps in most integrated amps are lousy. Sennheisers need a quality headphone amp. If you can't afford one, you should have bought different phones in the first place, ones that are easier to drive ie Grados or similar.

I use my HD595's through my Rotel RA-01 stereo amp. It sounds pretty damn good to me. My soundcard is an M-Audio 2496 Audiophile. It could do with a tad more bass but it's a pretty well balanced sound. My D2 also drives them very well, all things considered.

Goldring's have a pretty good level of bass, first time i heard a song with lots of bass through them made me jump :p

There also not bad at making the best of whatever you give them to work with.
