Hey,

I remember when Vista first came out, there were issues with Aero draining laptop batteries a lot quicker than XP. Have these issues all been resolved? My old man has a Dell Inspiron 6400 (C2D 1.66GHz, 2GB, X1300) which came with free upgrades to Vista Business and Office 2007 SBE (from the default XP Pro and Office 2003 SBE).

We're just wondering if it's now worth upgrading the machine?

Cheers,

Suman

I didnt think the difference was that pronounced anyways, i thought it was blown out of proportion by the generic hate for vista/new around that time? With the right power setting i can suqeeze 3-4 hours pretty easily (wireless and bluetooth permenantly on) with my little M1210. I have been able to right from the start...?

Coolio, sounds good :)

Also would be better to install x32 or x64? I've been using Ultimate x64 on my main PC, so I'm tempted to try and wangle some 64-bit disks from Dell. Although I was only provided with x32 disks, I presume the OEM licence covers both versions as it doesn't specify anywhere?

Cheers,

Suman

The Desktop Window Manager uses the GPU to process Aero effects, so I assume you would save a bit of battery by turning aero OFF.

Which would just cause the CPU to do more work, cancelling out any savings you made by recuding the load on the GPU.

It's all about using the correct tool for the job, and which do you think is more efficient when it comes to drawing things?

Sumanji go for 64 if you have the choice and can run it no reason why not really. Phone dell you should be able to get the relevent media from them :)
