Getting home from a night out in London?

I'm moving closer to London shortly (Farnborough) and will probably be going out quite a bit in central London. I've always wondered how people get home at night. The last train is at 1am which isn't very convenient for going clubbing. Are there any kind of night buses or any other form of 24 hr transport?

What does everyone else do who goes out in London?

I always get a nightbus to be honest, but that's only because there are several convenient stops close to where I go clubbing and where I stay. Sometimes I've waited well over an hour for a bus that is meant to come every 10-12 minutes... so it can be hit and miss.

Nightbuses are fairly good for me, takes a while but every 30 minutes at most and direct from shoreditch to my front door. If you're further out then it'll be less frequent and might not be great...

Farnborough is a bit (a lot) far from central London for a night bus, probably best to check when your last trains go. Although you are nearer to London it's still a heck of a long way really, must be about 25-35 miles from central London?

Farnborough isn't anywhere near London.

past the last trains home, you'll be looking at taxis, which for that distance will be eye watering, if you can find one that will take the fare.

I live outside London, but commute in for work and live about the same distance out as what Farnborough is.

My last train on a weekend is 2:30am, miss that and the only option is a taxi, which would be a small fortune on your own. I've only ever missed it once, which ended up being a cold night sat outside Euston station until 5:30am and getting the first train... which is actually a coach as a replacement. I wouldn't recommend it.

While I am envious of my friends and colleagues who can hop on Night Buses, it does also depend where you live in London. Some people in the outer zones have to change numerous buses and can take hours to get home when it gets very late.

I usually prefer the night bus option, although if there's a few girls with us who cba to get on the stinky buses, if there's a enough of us we'll share a taxi (not a rip off black cab) I use http://www.addisonlee.com/
Pretty decent prices! Plus you get a text message saying the make/model and reg plate of the car that is coming and the driver's name so it's safe which I think is cool.

Farnborough isn't anywhere near London.

What he said, not even if you are moving from Soton. Farnborough is roughly halfway in between. Fast London/F'boro trains run once the hour and usually at peak times (35 min journey). At other times, I think they are around 40 mins. Slow ones, which are the most likely ones late at night will be the stopping services.

Going out to London from Farnborough is a bit impractical. At a st
retch, you can get a train to Woking (30 mins journey, but runs much later into the night and as often as every 15 mins), then get a taxi (20-25 mins journey)

As people have said Farnborough isn't anywhere near London. I live in the west suburbs of london

and a cab home for me is £50-60. TO farnborough you're looking at closer £100 for a cab.

You best bets are to catch the last train from Waterloo. It'll be around midnight.

ALternatively you can stay out until the first train.

You live near Osterley Park?? Where abouts?? Small world me thinks! I usually cab it back from London, get a minicab for £40. Your best bet would be to stay out until the first train or get a cheap hotel room.

I like black cabs because their receipts are good. If i'm ever out in London it's because of work, so I expense everything - cabs, drinks, the works.

I've lived around here all my life. Old man lived down Jersey road towards Heston and old girl lives near the gates of Osterley Park, near the library.
