As per title really. Do they happen? If so, how do people introduce themselves to one another? E.g. "hi, I'm izoneiz"...sounds weird.

never meet people who you only know from the internet, remember:

men are men
women are men
kids are federal agents

The OcUK GD meets used to be legendary over 2 years ago. Met loads of awesome people from here. I don't keep up anymore so i don't know if they happen now, i suspect a lot less anyway. If you get a chance have a go maybe. No they aren't all geeks and weirdo's or at least they never used to be...

I've met people from other forums. It's a bit weird introducing yourself by your username. I've noticed that real names start getting used on the forums pretty quickly once people have met IRL.

"Muff' want a coke? Please Fox"

Only works with a pub full of people off the internet.

I went to a clan meet when I was 14 with a load of old men, slightly nerve racking :D You get used to meeting people you only know the voice/forum sig of.

I went to the original Glasgow meet about 5 years ago, not been one since. Most of the members that went to that no longer post I believe. I've also been to the Console forums LAN in Wales. Met a good few folk there and plan to go to the next one again.

Yeah a lot of the people who organised and attended meets have since stopped posting because of one thing or another (sometimes out of their control). None of the meets were ever like the stonecutters, lol, i just turned up was welcomed and had a right giggle. I just went to my home town one first, and then after that start travelling round the country taking sofa's etc... having a right time!

But it's not like it used to be here really, the recent Edinburgh meet kinda showed that... 'Tis a shame.

I went to a chat room meet years ago, was a bit strange.

I feel a bit guilty that I didn't go to the last motors meet since it was only 20 minutes up the road. But then they did organise it for 9am on a saturday.

EDIT: Anyone interesting in a meet @ K.C.'s local, Stroud, Gloucestershire?

Even other student's managed to travel halfway across the country for that time, I arrived fashionably late...11:30 :o

I've been and met people a few times from an e30 forum (old bmw's if you didn't know), but that doesn't seem as odd since you're meeting up to show off your car, and then go for a blast down some nice roads, stop at a pub, etc.

I've also met up with people from my WoW guild (although i'm not playing atm) - had a right laugh with them, met some in Wales one time, another time a few came over from Denmark for the weekend, then a year later LOADS of us went from the UK and met up with a load from Denmark. Had an absolutely awesome time and met my girlfriend at a party while i was over there! On the guild forum, and ingame whenever i go on, those that have met usually use RL names when talking to each other now - useful since people have so many alts, or are playing AoC, so RL names are easier ;)

Never gone to an OcUK meet though - almost seems like too big a community for it to work well i guess - but never tried it so i can't knock it :D
