Empire:Total War- short preview

Got it working! :p

Not really keen on it tbh, I may play a bit more tonight.. however I would say that the 'graphical' update in the mod has made the campaign map look worse imo. :(

Yep there is a def a downgrade of the map gfx but i can live with it as the gameplay becomes a little more interesting with this mod.

I'm liking the sound of this game so far. The special weapon (the rocket) I don't think is all that unrealistic; They actually appeared in Age Of Empires 3 as well.

This mod has me very excited.

Anything with Anglo-saxons has to be worth a look :). The Vikinig Invasion for M:TW1 was pure gold for me and i'm hoping that this is going to be a similar deal.

One of the highlights for this mod is the progress of time. Each year is made up of 12 turns. The characters age properly during this period. The weather also looks very exciting. The seasons will have a huge effect on your progress as food and movement are both limited by the weather.

May I ask why people want pure realism. I personally don't play the game to find out that in 1749 some general died of malaria or something, and I' don't really care whether 1 type of infantry is fractionally faster than another. I play for fun, usually in battle on arcade mode :)

Because it adds depth to the game, you become connected with the characters you're playing. This connection allows your imagination to work which is what all entertainment is about. I have kings and generals that i've become very attachted to, i like to feel that my choices affect their lives. I allow my best generals the best troops, i will move a gold expierence unit from England to Morrocco just so that the general can fight 2/3 stacks of enemies and win. Maybe its all a little Walter Mitty but this is why i love the series :p :D

In terms of realism in troops etc i want to feel that this is the kinds of men that marched and fought in those times. I didnt mind the elephants in R:TW but when they had cannons put on their backs i was a bit peed off because it goes against the ethos of the game i.e. to make a realistic military strat game that allows you to be Ceaser or Henry V.

Haha fair point :D They consume hours of my time though! "Oh just one more battle" and "OK just one more turn" is common place at 3am.

Never got around to purchasing Kingdoms, is it worth getting it so I can experience SS 6.1? As I'm limited to 4.1 with only mtw 2 retail.

Ofc its a great buy, it tries to do too much but the Brittannia campaign on VH/VH is a great challenge for anyone. SS 6.1 is brilliant and there are some more mods in the coming future that look pure gold. As i said before the modding community on this series deserve some good jobs in the industry for their great work.

Well that settles that then. :D Seems the cheapest I can source it is £15 which I guess isn't too bad.

What are the more prominent changes from 4.1 to 6.1?

Edit: Anyone know why whenever I try to enable EAX it says Unable to activate sound provider =/ Vista x64 and xtrememusic X-fi card.
