lo all,

i have an insurance question for everyone. If anyone remembers this post last year:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17766842&highlight=quackers

Basically, i parked my old escort up on a public street and went to work. Came back to his destruction, without being told by anyone (including the police)!

So i obviously tell my insurance what's happened and they go about getting me a courtesy car, money etc.

Now my question is this, have i made a claim or not?

My car insurance is up this month, and i notice that as soon i say i've made a claim it's going up a lot. Now surely this cant be right?

yea it counts as a claim because you went through your insurance company. If you had gone through the van drviers insurance company it wouldnt of been a claim

Its still a claim even if you arent at fault and you have to report it and yes it does usually have an affect on your insurance renewals.

That's terrible, i can understand if i've been involved in an accident. I wasnt even near the NO SWEARING thing !

its daft, buy insurance companies work on the principle that if you've involved in a non fault accident, your statistically more likely to claim off them.

Thus even getting your NCB back etc.. can still screw your insurance.

If you have told your insurance company it was the other guys fault and they claim against his insurer then it is not a claim for you. If you have just claimed on your insurance and they are not getting the money from the other guy then you are out of luck.

A driver went into the back of me while on the phone, was witnessed by police and he admitted liability. His insurer paid to have it fixed and Direct Line still put my premium up £150 the next time I went to renew.

You can guess where I told them to stick it.
