Your best & worst features of current Gen Consoles

Me too - if it was free, it wouldn't be as good quite simply. Microsoft especially would have to start cutting corners and it would turn into a budget service. Id much rather pay £40 a year
Could be said they already cut corners (most games are P2P and the dashboard is still ad heavy). I'm just making the point, I'm happy to pay the subscription myself.

Steam craps all over Xbox Live, I also find it pathetic console users had to pay for the CoD4 maps when PC got them for free in the 1.6 patch. :D

Just look at the FREE content Valve have been giving TF2, a big update for TF2 is due Tuesday, again for FREE. Whey.

Best and worst: DLC. Best because a lot of it extends the life of games I would otherwise not pick up again. Worst because a lot of DLC is either a complete money making scam (pay to unlock cheats) or you can get free if you had the PC version.

Nvidia sponsored them so really they paid them so we could get them free. all the good benefits of owning a decent pc :)

Really? I doubt they would have tried to make PC users pay, they would be frowned upon and nobody would buy them since the market just isn't used to it. :D

Its a good service, but when you can play online on PC/Wii/PS3 for free at the moment then the 360 fails in comparison. Its too much to pay for what it is. I dont mind paying just not that much.

I don't think any of those services offer the ease and simplicity Live does and that is what makes it worth the money. At least to me.

Never actually tried Steam so cant comment on that. If it has the ease of use and integration of features such as the friends list etc on Live and does it for free then I am impressed.

It's a bit different and you don't have gamerscore or global achievements, but TF2 has them and they unlock new weapons, well the Medic, Pyro and Heavy (as of Tuesday) all have achievements and unlockable weapons, rest of the classes will be done soon enough I guess.

But definitely on par with Live, more and more people seem to have microphones on PC these days which is fab! Text chat is still good banter too.

This is a console forum - so why are we comparing Xbox Live to Steam? Yes steam has more features but its on a PC....

I'm saying I don't mind paying £40 a year for XBL and the Wii/PS3's online system doesn't even compare to Xbox Live - no wonder they're free. Its hardley fair saying XBL is overpriced when its being compared to two systems that offer their memberships for free - when comparing the features, its worth it

Jihad - whats you're steamid? :p

PS3

Best: It has wireless Joypads. \o/

Worst: There are no games that interest me for it. Also the fact it won't output at 16:10 aspect ratio with black bars top and bottom. Yet.

They both offer exactly the same service so why cant they be compared? Whats differant about the way XBL is to PSN apart from the community as they both function in the same way really?

PS3 Goods:
Very robust media player
Fantastic build quality
Some very high production values in certain titles
No more memory cards \o/
Wireless controllers

I also like the fact that i know the company that built it spent more making and shipping it than i paid to buy it, guess you could say i feel i got my moneys worth.

PS3 Bads:
The fact that firmware development seems to have been a completely detached entity from hardware development, until recently at least.
No headset supplied
High production values lead to long production times and high costs.
Delays, delays and more delays.

Wii goods:
(things like wireless that also apply to ps3)
Innovative control method
Its small?

Wii bads:
Lazy developers cashing in without any imagination or creativity
IMO not a single really good game has been released for it yet
It could have been so much more (and might one day?)
Batteries, i hate changing batteries.

I don't own a 360 (yet), so no positives or negatives there, other than the fact that the wireless adapter is too expensive for my mate to buy so whenever i go over there its offline playing only :(.

Imgoing to say wireless connectivity is the best thing of this gen! I love that my ps3 can connect to a wireless network (why i never took my ps2 on the net) and that all the pads are wireless too :)

Worst thing is that feeling that game developers are being lazy with the things they relesae (boo-urns to mroe sequals really...)
