4850 2gb! WTF

probs for the people who think more ram=better no matter what piece of junk(not necessarily referring to 4850) card it is.:p

True! ppl here are probably laughing for the ridiculous amount of the RAM they put on the cards but loads of idiots are measuring the grades of gfx with the VRAM. Someone on fleebay only sells this kind of rubbish for living, such as 1GB 8500GT and 512MB 8400GS. And ppl are paying more than 80 quids for these craps. Unbelievable but true!

I've just read a review of the most pointless graphics card ever. Nevermind waiting for 1gig versions of the 4850/4870 to appear they release a 2gig version that is slower than the 512mb version:rolleyes:

Honestly, I do think 512MB is too little for a HD4850. If any brands could add 1GB GDDR4/5 RAM to 4850 and make it's RAM bandwidth over 100GBit/S, it would be a huge improvement for 4850.

e.g. I can't test my HD4850 with Crysis at 1680x1050 8xAA cos the VRAM is simply too little. With 1G GDDR4/5 RAM on 4850, it would be very competitive to it's brother- 4870. With better cooling and higher clocks, it could even beat 4870.

The reason why vendors keep releasing silly cards like this is very simple. They sell. Usually to Joe Public, since they think higher = better. It's just like over-inflated product prices - as long as people are still paying for them the companies won't stop releasing them :)

Well a 4850 with gddr5 is just a 4870 really :p

Yeah, this does seem like another one of those attempts to sway the ignorant into buying that card. You could sort of argue that it'd be useful for professional rendering, at least it's more viable than claiming 1GB is worthwhile on the 8500GT, but I personally think this sort of product shouldn't be allowed. It's like selling a double length ironing board; it's not practical, it serves no benefit and you'd get laughed at for bragging about it. :S

Ha ha, what a marketing gimmick. As the review (and common sense thinking) says it's a complete overkill.

I'm just waiting for the first "OMG I have 4Gb of RAM under Vista 32bit and installed this AMAZIIIING 2Gb VRAM card but now I have no RAM!!111!!! OMG" thread in this very forum ;)

That's the thing, if ATI do that, then people will buy the 4850 instead of 4870, which will be cheaper meaning ati's turnover is less
