Looks more aimed at designers rather than photographers. Don't need that much graphics horsepower, which also chucks out heat and kills the battery time

They're new cards so ought to feature the power-saving capabilities on idle of the recent line of GPUs, and it's fair to say they've been a big improvement on the previous gen of NVIDIA cards.

I don't think this is meant as a particularly portable gear though, Concorde Rules. Probably something you'd use in a hotel or media center, but not the sort of kit you'd take on the move with you for use on the train or plane. It is pretty much a high-end-desktop-replacement-in-one. And I want one.

I don't see why a powerful graphics card is needed. It's not like designers or photographers do vast amounts of intensive real-time 3D rendering.

Its for photographers.

The guy who went to the olympics took a MacBook Pro.

I *expect* it to be light, I don't need a stupidly powerful CPU or GPU in it and nor does a pro!!!

Lenovo designed the ThinkPad W700 mobile workstation to exceed the demands of the most data and graphics-intensive users, in fields such as digital content creation, computer-assisted design and manufacturing, photography and science fields like oil and gas.

It's for more than just photographers.

they do have their work cut out if they want to displace the Macbook Pro as the tool of choice for photography professionals across the globe...

Still, a nice piece of kit - Lenovo's are better built than their apple counterparts; but this may well tip the scales when a pro-pap is carrying a couple of SLR bodies and a bag of fast lenses..

No I use it because of the operating system, the fact that it's pretty much industry standard for graphic designers, the fact that I don't have to spend half my life fixing a PC and can just get on with the work.

As Concord says, the system above is bigger and heavier than a 17" MBP and as a 17" owner I can say I wouldn't want anything bigger or heavier.

The fact that the MBP is sexy as hell is just an added bonus. ;) As a designer I'm bound to be attracted to something that's had at least a tiny bit of thought put into the aesthetics.

As a MBP user, I agree in sorts, but I would say that I bet the battery in that doesn't die like my MBP's has! Apple batteries aren't the best.

It's a serious bit of kit. Not the sort of laptop you'd want to carry around on your back all day, but it's got lots going for it. The integrated graphics tablet is a good idea (depending on how good it is).

We use lenovo's at work all the time, basicly a IBM laptop, so you get great build quality and decent insides with it. Also the after sales service is good too.

Not sure why someone would pay more for the MBP, unless you think your photos will look better if the laptop looks better, somehow, but i am biased to PC's as ive used both and mac's have nothing a pc will do... still, thats another topic lol..

This laptop isnt bad for what it does. Not got my hands on one yet, but wont be long till one turns up in our company, then ill give it a good going over and see what its like.
