Renting in Manchester - Best area's?

I'm two weeks into my new posting in Manchester, where I'm going to be now for a good 5 years or so, and need to get a place to rent asap.

Currently travelling 90min a day to work, and then 12hrs later 90min back, so it's getting a little long in the tooth now, so need to step up my search for a place.

My budget is around £600pcm max including rent, and would like to be in somewhere pretty nice that I get to chill out in my time off, a mate is also looking for a place but he only has a budget of around £400pcm.

Where are the really nice area's that I should be looking at that are within about 20min max away from Manchester Royal Infirmary as I'm based in three stations in Central Manchester?
 
If only there was some kind of place you could go where they had lots of available flats/ houses to rent... :p
 
so your budget is a grand a month between you, or 600 on your own.
either will get you something very nice in the city centre or chorlton/didsbury/withington way, they're probably your best choices in terms of area, depends what you're looking for, is city centre ok or are you looking for a house?
 
You'd be better living together because you will save quite a bit, you can't expect anything other then a grotty little bedsit for all in at £600 can you?
 
If you are working in the centre, then that is the place to live assuming you don't mind an apartment, my mate is living in a nice converted mill thing for about £650, 2 bedroom.

You would be surprised. I'd reckon you would get a nice 2 bedroom apartment in the city centre (well maybe just outside) for £600 easily or a nice house in the surburbs somewhere for £600. Somewhere on the north side like Prestwich (which is on the tram line) would be cheaper than the likes of didsbury etc.. Sale would be a good option too. Nice area and it's also on the tram lines.
 
you can easily get a nice flat in the city centre for £600, maybe 5 minute walk to the actual centre, but still very central. is the 600/400 just for rent or as muffin` says all in?
 
A samll apartment in Castlefield, which is the posh place to be in central manchester, will only set you back ~£600pcm.

A decent sized house/flat will cost about £750, but further out (fallowfield/withington/chorlton)
 
My £600 would be all bills inc, furniture would be a big plus too, have even seen some places with gym on top floor that would be very handy.

So anywhere like that would be great, as long as the walls are thick enough so that I can sleep in the day when I'm doing my night shift stint.

I'm not bothered if it has to be a house, there might be a couple of others to bring in to share between 3/4 people.

Part of me wants a nice luxury like apartment in the city centre so that I can have a few years of that before heading back home to North Wales for the quite life!
Things like a lovely shower etc would be nice to go home to after a long shift too :p

Mate of mine lives in a really smart appartment just off deansgate, two bed place, fully furnished, private underground car parking - £800 a month. So between you it'd only be £400!
 
I used to live in Urmston, it's about 15 minutes on the train into the centre (Deansgate / Oxford Rd or piccadilly), I moved away 8 years ago now so don't know what it's like now, but it was a nice area to live.

Yeah you can easily get a 3 bed house in and around Bury on the tram line, but he wants it inc bills :eek:
 
My wife and I used to rent in Levenshulme - Three bedroom, victorian semi, decorated to a very high standard. Very very nice place, 650 pcm. Might be worth seeing if you can find a third person and pocket the difference for somewhere like that ;)
