I am looking for a cash sale but dependant on what I can get this for i might consider this part-ex. It will free up a bit of cash straight away and i could get to enjoy a new toy for a bit whilst trying to sell it.

equally I would rather have the simplicity of a straight sale. decisions!

please value this if i had to sell it relatively quickly:

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/450988.htm

and the price he has based the trade on isnt that high!

Do it Tom, miles seem low however and i'd want to know the condition of the Turbos before i went for it.

Should be a really good laugh for a while me thinks, Andy (Austin) is going to hate you ;)

With it being pre 2001 shouldn't be 'that hard' to sell on, only question i'd ask is, 'is it worth having a car like this when you already have the CSL?'

26.5 grand for an 8 year old RS4? You can get newer RS6s for about 10 grand less than that! Maybe I know nothing about RS4s but that strikes me as somewhat overpriced?

I dont think its possible to sell a car like that relatively quickly. He also has a massively inflated sense of the value of his car and I'm not sure I'd ever want it - you have the worst of both worlds there. It's a low mileage car so it has a premium value, but as he rather foolishly admits in his advert its spent most of its time in London so is likely in no better condition than a car twice the miles and many, many thousands of pounds cheaper.

26.5k is nowhere near the price he has offered it to me.

what i want to know is what price it would achieve in this market for a quick sale and then i can work my maths back from there. :)

I'd be concerned that his Pistonheads ad has been there for nearly 2 months without it selling. Might be harder to get rid of than you think.

I don't really think any of us on OcUK can really accurately value it except perhaps housemaster but personally I'd say if he's offering you his for the equivilent of £15k it's a decent enough deal :)

i would imagine that its been on for so long because its at £26.5k.

it would work out at about £21k to me, given where my current best offer with the M5 is and how much cash he is going to to put my way. This is before any bargaining.

21k I think is still a good rodgering, personally I don't think you will be able to sell it on for that much in a reasonable timeframe.

15k seems to be the bottom end of the market for an OK one, over the past 6 month i been in and out of the S4 / RS4 adverts looking at whats selling, cars with a Remap seem to sell before those without, how many miles its done doesn't seem to effect the speed of sale unless over 100k, i'd say on a quick sale you should get 18k for that no problems.

I wouldn't want to pay 21k for a 2001 RS4 and a 3k drop for a few months playing isn't worth it, what would BMW offer you for the M5?

Do you not think that £21k for an 8 year old Audi that really has a reputation which rather outstrips its ability compared to the other cars you've owned is a tad pricey?

i agree, i was trying to get an idea of a counteroffer. i think Fox is being pretty harsh, although i would have no problems doing the deal at that price!

i was thinking around the 17-18k mark?

i think Fox is being pretty harsh

Given that you don't actually want an RS4 and it's only an idea you are considering since he has approached you I think 'pretty harsh' is exactly what you need to be so you don't swap one virtually impossible to sell car for another which isn't quite as good and is loads older.

Call a couple of Audi dealers and offer them his car - see what they say and base your value on that. Effectively he is trading in with you so trade in value or close to is not an unreasonable idea.

Maybe, also remember this type of car is becoming increasingly difficult to sell, for obvious reasons.

its a fair point, and a good call with regards the dealers, at least i know what the absolute bottom line is then.

Keep the M5 and forget the RS4. You'll simply take a bath when you come to sell and it will be no easier to sell than an M5. So you'll pay cash for a worse experience and address none of the issues you have trying to get shot of the M5. Premium sector is a tough place to sell at the moment, I am trying to get out of my RS4 without loosing the GDP of Ireland.
