Ford Cougar .... any good?

Anyone ever tried any of these, or have an opinion on them? a friend of mine is looking at one, and i dont know much about cars.

looks not bad though, and duratec V6 cant be that bad

anyone?

Decent cars, but too expensive when you remember it's just a Mondeo in drag. An ST24 would probably be a better bet.

So they are rare, exotic AND reliable and cheap? Awesome, ST24's seem even better buys in Aus than they are here

true, although i can assure you, if you seen the cost of cars here, you would faint

They are good if you are willing to live with the following:

- unique, hard to find tyre sizes (those that you do find are expensive as ****)
- 2l a bit underpowered (Saab 9-3 2.0 outruns it convincingly)
- dodgy wishbones, only replacable in pairs, freakin' expensive to replace

Other than that, they are great

Bit old though and replacement parts are difficult to find (production stopped in 01/02).

It is "just" a pretty mondeo though.

Tell your friend to buy something else.

Was pretty sure they came with a 2.5l V6 rather than the 2.0l?

They come with both.

V6 is the faster (and thirstier) option.

My ex-missus has a V6 Cougar.
It's not bad but as others have said, it's just a Mondeo in drag for more money.

The V6 is horrible to work on by the way due to access issues and the Haynes Book'o'lies for the Mondeo/Cougar assumes that the access is the same as the Mondeo, which it isn't.

This is a tricky one really.

Mondeos are samey but better value for money..but come on guys a cougar looks much nicer than an st24 ffs

Cougars really aint changed much in value for years which is odd. I considered one years ago and noticed recently that they've only devalued smallish amounts since.

Falcons are over rated and Bogan mobiles. Along with Commodores.(Bogans=Chavs)

From what ive seen i reckon an ST24 is about 15k AUD down here

Parts are a nightmare on cougar's it took ford 7 months to give up and tell us they couldn't source a motor we were after.

Cack, although thats my person opinion, tried a V6 one hated it. Surely there are better options in Aus.

You mean the Low reving Windsor V8 that only recently got changed about a 2 years ago when it was first put into falcons back in the 80s or something like that.

Give me a Toyota V8 anyday
