Here's the low down:

The fiesta I drive when not at uni is insured with tesco, I am a named driver, and have 2 years named no claims discount with tesco only. (I couldn't afford to start my own policy, which I regret now but what's done is done.)

We're looking to sell the fiesta as there's no need for it while I'm at uni, insurance runs out on the 25th of August.

I am going to be put as a named driver on my mums CRV for when I'm at home, but Churchill won't insure her so she's going to tesco, it's the cheapest we could find, which is surprising. This will help as I'll have 3 years named no claims discount for when I probably buy a mondy with my own policy next June for my placement year.

In the mean time I need to sell my car, but what do I do about the insurance? Is it worth going to someone like 'webuyanycar' or 'cash4cars' to get ~£3100 for it, even when we'd hope for £3600 for it, it's weighing up the costs etc and whether I can sell it with no insurance for test drives etc. (insurance would be ~£700/~£60 a month).

We can't afford to insure the two cars at the same time, hence the sale. so:

Plan A:

0. insure fiesta in the next week.
1. put car up for sale on autotrader, pistonheads, local newspapers and hope for the best.
2. wait 'til sale and then add me to CRV tesco insurance.

Plan B:

0. leave fiesta uninsured.
1. go to 'we buy any car' and sell.
2. add myself to CRV insurance.

Plan C:

1. don't insure + put on autotrader etc.? too risky imo for test drives.

Plan D:

1. Ask OcUK... ta :)

Plan E:

Don't insure the Fiesta yourself (keep it garaged for anti-theft purposes)
Place adverts
If prospective purchaser wishes to test drive, THEY arrange insurance (your insurance will almost definitely NOT cover test drivers anyway!)

this. Proof it starts and can move under its own steam is enough

If THEY want to run it around for half an hour and listen for knocking noises etc.. then they can arrange insurance through dayinsure.com or similar.
