280GTX and 4870X2 Owners: What PSU's are You Using (Watts)

Corsair 620W, no problems.

I must have a dodgy (ish) Corsair 620 then. I don't know if this has anything to do with it but it's one of the early revisions that didn't have the extra 2-pin pcie connectors (I had to use the 2x molex to 8-pin adapter that came bundled with the card). Also, I must have been half asleep when I said it was powering a Q6600 at 3.8Ghz as it was actually an E6600 at 3.8Ghz, yet it still didn't have enough grunt. Oh well, I received my 750 pc power and cooling today and couldn't be happier with it.

Got a Gamestream ocz 850 watt (20 amps on 4 rails= 80) running my SLI GTX8800's with a Quad 9650, and one hard drive. Will this wattage be enough for TWO GTX280's?, (been advised to go for 1000 watts) I'm looking at the seasonic above, that runs one GTX280, so, in theory, my 850 watter would have 250 watts extra to run two GTX280's.

It should do easily

From VR-Zone

"We did some power draw tests on the GTX 280 cards in single and SLI mode on a QX9650 + 790i SLI setup. With single GTX 280 card, the system is drawing 147W at idle and 292.2W at peak and the 3DMark Vantage score is P10324. With GTX 280 SLI, the system is drawing 190.1W at idle and 508W at peak. The 3DMark Vantage score is P15813"

Ref the Corsair HX 1000W

That's the PSU Driver Heaven has just used to for its TRI 280 GTX SLI vs 4870X2 CrossfireX Skulltrail analysis. The spec of their test system was about as demanding as anyone could envisage.

Without question one of the best quality PSUs currently on offer, and I'd say very reasonably priced - seen it for as low as 145. Very wise investment, overkill or otherwise!:)

Exactly my rationale for buying one ;)
