Resident Evil 2..Do Saves Matter?

I always thought the amount of saves you used effected your rank but after looking around it seems it doesn't :confused: Does anyone know 100%?

I always thought that too. Im sure i've got the official guide at home that says saves affect your rank.

Who said they don't?
 
I remember reading/hearing that you had to steer clear of First Aid sprays to get good ranks, but I don't remember anythign about saving.

How to get all the Ranks:

S Rank: Beat the game in 1:30. Use only One herb. don't use any weapon upgrades, no special weapons (like the R. Launcer) and don't pick a weapon up more than one time, like if you pick up the shot gun from the weapon owner, don't go and get it on the police station.

A Rank: Beat the game under 3:00 and don't use any first aid, no special weapons.

B Rank: Just beat the game under 3:00

C Rank: Finish the game in 5 to 7 hours

D Rank: Beat the game over 7 hours

I got it down to 1:32.xx many years ago, a friend and i were trying to speedrun the game.

That was pretty much the peak of my gaming skills, all games would fall to my l33t hands back then.


Time has been a cruel mistress :(
 
I looked at the ign page and saw this tacked at the bottom by the D rank section:

Note that your rank will be lowered by one grade if you use any special weapons or if you saved more than 12 times.

Im pretty sure that this actually counts for all the ranks but was just dumped at the bottom of the page.

I remember getting a A rank but that S rank time is insane lol

I remember 1hr 36. I really don't know if I did it under 90mins. Odd I remember trying to do the original game under 3hours with Chris more than Resi 2 but Res 2 was so awsome over the original. I loved the demo starting in the town it was like OMG we are out the mansion.
 
Well just had a run through with claire(A) and did it in 2 hours 17 mins. Not bad really seeing as i haven't done here A scenario in years.
 
It does matter.

If you want the gatling gun, beat the game in 2.30 hours, no first aid sprays, no special items (the smg and/or the bag space extender) and no saves. This will get you the best rank and the weapon.

I don't think the 1.30 hour thing's correct, I only did this like a month ago and got the game beat in over 2 hours and still got the S-rank and the Gatling gun.
