Virgin V+box HD & HD channels

Hi guys,

Looking for some information on this box as I know squat about them.

Basically my neighbour has an LG LCD TV with a Virgin V+box HD, he wants to watch the HD channels in full HD and sound, so he connected it using a HDMI lead, he gets a great picture but no sound at all from the TV when it is on a HD channel, but he does when it is on a SD channel.

Could anyone tell me what is needed to get sound and vision via the HDMI lead on the V box?

Dont you need to plug the sound into a sound system when using HDMI leads as all they move is the image?

But i maybe wrong there.

HDMI by design supports both digital video and digital audio

The SD channels will all be outputting a standard anologue signal, with the box changing it to a digital one for the HDMI transmission to the TV. Except for movie channels of course etc where Dolby Digital is being output. I would get him to try watching a SD channel where DD is being used and see if the telly does that just fine. If it does then have a dig around both manus on the TV and box. Not a bug I am used to hearing about but that might just be me.

I will go have a quick hunt and see if I can find any useful info for you regarding this.

something to start on, a bit of waffle regarding HDMI audio settings on that FAQ to have a look at.

Have a look at the HDMI OVERRIDE setting, that may do the trick from what I have read.

That's the option

It's slightly annoying as if you set it to put sound on the TV then it won't send the DD to a receiver but if they only ever use the TV it'll be fine.

As far as i know Virgin only has 1 HD channel and thats the BBC HD Preview one is that correct?

Unless its the pay per view movies that he wants ofc
