Ever wanted a Mercedes? Well you won't now..

He isn't a chav, he is a very successful premiership footballer. Let it go, I can see you were last to be picked at school and now have a vendetta against someone can make a living from football. Let it go :p

How many Mercedes owners and aspiring owners will be able to relate to a 22 year old chav who, were it not for his ability to kick a ball, would probably be going nowhere?

Does make you wonder. Your average £40-£50k car customer probably hasn't got an awful lot in common with Roony, nor do they aspire to be anything like him..

It's clearly not just me who shares this opinion ;)

Marketing experts, however, have questioned the deal, suggesting that Rooney's reputation could put off some of Mercedes more traditional customers.

Brand analyst Peter York told the Telegraph: 'Ordinarily you'd expect Mercedes to choose someone aspirational and classy to advertise its cars, and it's fair to say that Wayne Rooney doesn't fit that category.

You do have to wonder what sort of person needs no less than 3 super bling SUV's.

A collection of classic sports cars, perhaps. But 3 SUV's... sums him up I'm afraid :p

Crazy, Rooney doesn't have a great track record, going with a 50 year old prostitute and his behavior on the pitch is hardly desirable for one of the best car makers in the world.

they got it spot on with this Brolin

but Rooney, I can just picture him in advert going to McDonald's screaming to Coleen in his scouse accent.

Absolutely ridiculous

Rooney is already known for his love of cars, with his garage including a BMW X5, Bentley Continental GT, Aston Martin Vanquish, Cadillac Escalade, Range Rover Sport and a Lamborghini Gallardo.

All the guy does is kick a ball around a field and has all this, something is very wrong with football.

Oh and Mercedes - what have you done!?

Probably gonna see chavs stealing merc badges to stick on their chavmobile.

Doesn't Hamilton have a super bling Lincoln or something?

I thought Merc shot there own foot off with build quality a few years ago ?

Maybe trying to pull in a younger market after losing a lot of there old school customers ?

Shay Given is also sponsered by MB.

I know this because I had used his old (57 reg) GL420CDI for a couple of nights last week!

But young people don't want new Mercs and even fewer can actually afford them.

Serious question for you Maz - what proportion of your new car sales are to under 25's?s

Before this news:

Reasons to buy a new Merc: 0
Reasons not to buy a new Merc: 1,000,000

After this news:

Reasons to buy a new Merc: 0
Reasons not to buy a new Merc: 1,000,001

We've started to get the young footballers through buying new MBs, I think with the addition of cars such as the CLC and C Class Sport it gives younger people cars they actually would be keen to own.

At present I'd say new car sales to people under 25 must be about 5-10% which might seem quite high, but you'd be suprised how many younger people have the means to afford new MB cars.

I hate football but I love Rugby, motor sport and plate spinning but I don't nor will I ever require an ambassador to convince me what car to buy. Fact is however that football is the game of the masses both rich and poor and I suggest that many modern Mercedes owners are big (add scouse twang) 'footy' fans. Simply gives them free tabloid airtime and forum discussion...
