For the last 18 months I've been on the following O2 contract:
  • 800 minutes any time/network
  • 2,000 minutes any network to be used on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.
  • Either 100 or 200 sms (can't remember) with mms used as 3 txt's.
  • A whole 1MB download
  • Reduced rate international calls
  • £35/month
Should I stick with this and just upgrade my phone or is there something better out there?

Out of the 800, not a lot. Out of the 2,000, probably half.

Bare in mind being able to use the 2,000 mins on a Monday does cut down the burden on the 800 mins noticeably.

I never go over my txt allowance, prefer to call.

The limited download allowance can be a killer though. I'm tempted by the web browsing bolt-on they do.

hmm...ring retentions and theyll tell you all your average usage per month on the weekends/weekdays etc. cater a contract around that, and as you said you use less minutes, so youll get lower minutes but then get a better phone and ask to take the price down too

Well I'm due a free upgrade to phone as I'm in the last month of my contract so that's not a problem.

Was wondering more if any other network operator had decent deals on atm?

I can do the usual "PAC code please" routine with O2 otherwise to get a small incentive. Not expecting much this time round as I can't see any official deals that come close to what I got on any network.

ring retentions they will be able to smash that deal.

You basically need 1500 minuets to cover your needs.

I just got a new contract with orange for £39 / month wich was 1200 minuets, 1000 texts and unlimited data.

I am a new customer so surely that can be beaten

Just checked my current usage summary. I've used 1,890 minutes already this month and they renew on the 3rd of each month.

I'm quite happy with the amount of minutes I get, and some months, I do need most of them. The things I'd like to get more off is browsing basically.

Orange offered me 2,400 minutes x-net for £40/m 18 months ago.

The deals seem to be quite poor at the moment in comparison to back then.

Samsung Omnia is not available through O2 direct yet so am holding off requesting for a PAC code at the moment.

Too easily when you use the same phone for personal and business use.

I'm not into texting much either, prefer to call.

i upgraded with o2 about 3 weeks ago

Paying £5 a month for: 250mins 400text and Unlimited Web Bolt ON (Fair Usage Applies)
18 months contract No phone, just the sim. Bought a nokia 6124 classic yesterday and it's a sweet phone.

I'm really happy with that. And even then i dont use most of the mins/text, bust smash the internet though :)

It all depends how many minutes you use. if i was u go for a sheaper line rentel and save money that way.

As mentioned, I use a lot of minutes. I'm happy to pay more to get more, although all i see so far is pay more, get less.

Just requested my PAC code from O2 - tried to blag an iPhone on a cheaper contract but no luck.

OMFG sho how did you manage that? just rang them? i've been with o2 payg for about 3 years and that'd be so perfectly suited to what I need. Then I could just sort out a HTC Tytn 2 from somewhere. Can you give us the number you rang etc. please mate? ... thanks

Just rang up the normal customer service number and upgraded. But then again there is a little twist, Before i upgraded to this new contract i upgraded 1 month before that, for £35 month N82 1200 min 1000 text and web bolt on.
But decided to cancell it and handed my 30 days notice. 2 weeks later i get a phone call regarding about my contract and upgraded.
(And yea i put the phone down and rang them, dont like the idea of som1 ringing me and trying to do a upgrade etc as far as im concerend they could be any1.)
Before i can say what wanted the geezer offered 200 mins and 200 text for a fiver but i managed to get the extra 50 min and extra 200 text and most important web bolt on which i need.

I'm keeping this for life me...:) For a 5 you can't go wrong.

So the web bolt on is included within your £5 a month?

The 02 contract i have.

600 minutes tuesday to friday.
2000 weekend minutes (mondays inclusive)
2000 texts.
unlimited web access.
Free Roaming, with reduced rate calls.

£30 p/m.

^ Yes it is.

how long does it take Sho for it to happen. Ie. I ring up and I assume they can add this contract onto my already o2 sim card, is it then immediate or is there a week or something for it to kick in? also if i was to ring up today and get it sorted would they take £5 for the time in between today and 1st september? or not?

cheers bud

OK I've gone with a 30-day rolling contract on a discounted sim-only deal while I wait for O2 to get some of the new power-house phones in stock (X1, i8510, N96, etc).

I now get:
  • 1,200 x-net minutes anytime
  • Free x-net weekend minutes
  • 1,000 txts
  • £25/m
This is pretty much equivalent to what I get now (maybe bit better actually) for £10/m less.

In simple, it will start affective from your next billing date. So my case, my billing date is the 11th each month.
