New Metallica single - The Day That Never Comes

I heard it on radio one earlier. I really like it.

Although yes it could do with being abit heavier, however its a step in the right direction and miles better than st anger.
 
The drumming sounds well off.. other than that I quite like it, Trujillo sounds like he has had his amp turned up a little louder than Newstead, Overall, pretty good
 
Better than SA by a mile. Vocals too polished, my only criticism. I actually, shockingly, quite like it.

More edit; the solo intro sounds a lot like the into to 'the trooper' by Iron Maiden

A step in the right direction from St Anger but a mediocre song in my book, not bad by any means but quite haphazard and uninspired.
 
I was pretty impressed with that, had shades of Fade to black for the first few minutes. Of the clips ive heard it sounds very 'justice' in production but with bass:D
Hell it beats Lars sounding like he went to a scrap yard for his new kit.
 
Not a bad song at all and I think a higher bitrate may have made a big difference, but bodes well for the album.
 
Anyone else think it just sounds like a re-hash of about 10 old Metallica tracks rolled into one? The sort of tune Weird Al would come up with if he was taking the P out of them.

Very weak sounding mix, maybe it's just the MySpace sound.

Couldn't you say that about every band on the planet? By that I mean sounding like themselves, not sounding like Metallica.

This is definitely a new sound for Metallica, not a very good one though, drums suck at stated above.
 
I liked it. It good old metallica..

I know a lot of people are just not going to like it because it isnt the 80s anymore but at the end of the day its a lot better than st anger. Its pretty good anyways without comparing it to st anger...

Wishes was at leeds/reading now :(

You really do, they're definitely on form at the moment. Dublin was awesome yesterday ;)

It's isn't a simple case of sounding like themselves, it's more a case of them becoming a parody of themselves.

It's as if they sat in the studio and said "hey, remember when we sounded a bit like this" and just bunged it all together in a track that doesn't work.

Compare Kill 'em All to The Black album, they both sounded like Metallica but sounded very different to one another.

I haven't heard St Anger so I can't really say but as you say it isn't the eighties anymore, they should look forward themselves not simply remix old ideas that used to work.
