I'm sure you've come across someone like this. Complete MS fan boy - raves on about IE7, office, windows OS and won't listen to reason. He insists that the company runs zonealarm on all our laptops, despite it making them horrendously slow. I was recently tasked with putting together an internal website, which I developed with PHP and MySQL, he then tells me it needs to be redone because it doesn't use ASP! His arguement was that PHP is for kids in their bedrooms, real developers use ASP. The nonsense this guy comes out with is out of this world.

Seriously, the list goes on. Any have similar experiences?

Yes, usually over come by just ignoring them and getting on with it. The "Technical Director" at my last job was an absolute MS fanboy. He was "repositioned" after one of the teams under his constituency/control decided to ignore him and run a php app that out performed his ASP version and didn't cost a penny, compared to the hundreds of pounds of licenses his cost.

Was more of an Apple fanboy when i was working, the guy i usually sit next to was a nice guy but he insisted that he was always right i just use to give in most of the time and carry on my own way, i remember when he bought an iphone he insisted it had 3G when we all knew it didn't.

When hes out to lunch change his background image to a linux desktop and hide his start bar/icons :D

Haha we do this now and then! Print screen the desktop, hide all the icons and task bar and set as wallpaper!

Last week we plugged in a mouse from another desk into someones pc and whenever they moved their mouse we moved the plugged in one the oppsite way. Funny as hell, that'll teach him for being a tit!:D

Some people may call me an MS fanboy, but even I would do web dev in PHP and MySQL unless there was a specific reason I wanted to use .NET for something.

Saying that, I'm not a true MS fanboy, especially considering I'm using a Mac right now out of choice.

Burnsy

Mac fanboys are even more annoying in a Windows environment. So your job is to pretty much just use Outlook and an internal web-based tool developed for IE all day, but you're saying you'd be more productive on a Mac and the reason you keep screwing up is because you have to deal with Windows? Sure it is.

I can understand wanting to use Microsoft software for simplifiying administration and client policies.

Restricting the choice of development tools / languages for web is a bit silly though - unless he has to support/fix them when you're away, and he doesn't have PHP/MySQL knowledge.

Offer him a fight in the carpark

Seriously, use the quad laser. no one can resist the quad laser.

Gah I can't stand these people, the best arguement is free linux versus MS OS. You could argue all day for linux and he wouldn't be able to win that round ;)

he sounds like a right nasty person.

does he not realise why "kids in their bedrooms" choose to play with php, and why more servers globally run apache/php than windows?

let me guess, he chirps microsoft all day but all of the microsoft software he runs is coppied and unlicenced.

I don't think there's more Apache (with mod_php) servers worldwide than IIS. There's more Apache servers, but they won't all be running PHP.
