Hiya

I have upgraded from an IDE DVD-RW to a Pioneer SATA DVD-RW. I have formatted and re-installed Vista and every time I boot up now it crashes to BSoD.

When the drive is unplugged, I can access Windows with no issues. When I plug the drive in, I can load to Windows, but I crash shortly after.

Sometimes with the error: IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

I have no problems with my memory, CPU or other pieces of hardware - it's only since my new drive and format.

My spec is:
Antec 550w (I *think*)
C2D E6400 @ 3.0ghz
4gb Ballistix
NVidia 8800 GTS 640mb
Sound Blaster XFI Gamer edition

I have two SATA Seagate hard drives, 250gb each - one into the black SATA port 1, and one into the red SATA port 2; not in raid.

I plugged the new SATA DVD drive into red SATA port 3

Any help would be greately appreciated!

Try plugging it into SATA 4, check the manufactures website of the new drive, it might be a known issue. Also try the latest chipset drivers for your mobo. Do you have another machine you could test the new drive in? Could be faulty on arrival.

I've just tried it in all the SATA sockets, same issue.

Just checked Pioneers website. No issues with my motherboard or any support information found. So im guessing it works fine.

My motherboard is flashed to newest bios.

Sadly no other computer to test it on.

When i first got it, i plugged it in, and it ran fine, played dvds, cds and installed a few games. It was after the format where the issue started. So its not DoA.

Sata Lead

Have you tried a different SATA lead and a different PSU molex connector?

As it only happened after a format of the OS - have you run Windows Update?

Only after the format, i've just done a windows update now, finally finished, so i'll test it and get back to you.
