Well obviously you can't completely hide them, there's always going to be some way of locating your secret files, but it's extremely unlikely someone will just randomly search for all avi's on your system in hidden folders. The point is to stop people accidentally stumbing across them. If they are specifically looking for it then they WILL find it assuming they have the know how.

If you really want to hide it make a truecrypt partition and store the pr0n in there and remember to keep your truecrypt key to yourself

Everyone looks in the "stuff" folder or other hiding places no one evler looks in the folder next to the pirates of the caribian...

just thought I would help out some of the porn shy people out there, I can't be bothered trying to hide it and I think the wife actually watches more porn than me..defo now with my PC being out of action due to my PSU failure.
Moving house tomorrow and my mum told me that the phone line will not be connected until 11th Sept. I do not know what I am going to do.
A few options are realistic here:
1: If there's an unsecured wireless: Nick it.
2: If you've got nice neighbors with wireless, ask them kindly
3: Go to the t mobile shop or whatever company offers cheap 3g, and get an UMTS Internet package.
4: Daily Internet cafe.
5: If everything else fails: Download as much porn as possible, as much reading stuff as possible, and prepare yourself
