Just installed CPUz and found that the core speed is only 1.6ghz, I've tried running 4 instances of Prime95 thinking it was speedstep kicking in, but it's still showing 1.6ghz even at 100% utilisation, anyone any ideas? The My Computer properties says @ 2.4ghz but CPUz doesn't.

Check the multiplier in the BIOS, it may be showing 6, if so raise to 9 and check your FSB in the BIOS as well.

Windows power saving may be enabled. Go to control panel and check power options. Economy runs your CPU at its lowest multiplier even at full load.

I've manually set the multi and bus to 266*9 but it's still showing as 1600mhz in cpuz with a 6x multiplier

Bios at post also shows Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz, no power saving is enabled.

Edit: seems to be working now, as soon as there's load it's stepping up to 9x muli

ive left myne on, get no performance loss, and when its needed, it bumps back up to 2400 instantly :)

Same here with an E6600, even though its OC to 3ghz. Windows reports the 'correct' speed for the CPU, not its actual/current clock speed. Glad to hear you have sorted it!

i sappose it would boot at any speed wouldnt it? aslong as its got enough voltage and well. whatever the back of the windows package says as min requiremnets?

Does disabling C1E enhanced halt state mean the CPU will always run a its max clock?

Never played around with this option in the BIOS before...
