Disappointment on my new company car

I'm dealing with a large well known fleet car company and they have mucked up my order. I'm so miffed!

On 1st May I ordered a bright red Audi A3 Sport, got kept waiting for ages because of the facelift that has just occurred and the fleet company were struggling to get pricing info out of Audi and so my car was finally ordered on 12th June.

Anyway they have buggered up my interior colour, I asked for Black cloth with silver stitching and they have ordered me Grey.

I've now told them that I will most likely reject the car unless they can sweeten the deal.

What kind of goodies would you ask for?

Yes, I've taken cruise control as an option. I have said it would be nice to have that FOC but the guy on the end of the phone thought it was unlikely.

I've told him not to bother offering me fuel as I dont pay for that anyway, I have a satnav and bluetooth is no good to me as company policy is no mobile phones whilst driving whether it be hands free or not.

The car is already built so they cant change the interior apparently and cancelling this car means a wait until January for an A3!!!!

it's not really the end of the world though is it? I'd be miffed too, but at the end of the day you're getting a car for free (albeit with payment for cc). it's not worth the wait imo, so just get the interior really grubby and it will be black :)

It's... a company car, not your car. Some people don't get any choice at all in what they have!

No I'm aware of that and I consider myself lucky in that respect. I've been stuck with a Vectra Life as a hire car for the first 5 months so I know how it feels to be landed with a car you dont want.

I've always wanted an A3 and because I was able to order a brand new one I was excited about being able to make up the shopping list of all the things I wanted. I'm now going to have a car for 4 years knowing it wasn't really what I wanted.

To those critics who say it doesn't make much difference, when you spend 8 hours a day on the road and the view you see most is that of your car interior...the colour matters.

Raikiri - Grey instead of Black

From what you've said, I don't think there's anything they could offer that would make up for it now, I'd reject it and wait tbh, even though it's really annoying, it's not as annoying as four years with the perfect car that isn't perfect.

yeh exactly a lot of people end up in basic model vectra diesels:(

So?

She got offered a car that she could choose the spec of, and hasn't got that. I'd reject it to, if not just out of principle. I'd also tell the company that I no longer have my car (your astra), as you sold it pending the arrival of the A3.

This way it leaves them up bum-creek and they have to get you a hire-car/pool car.

I'd either being asking for something completely different or be trying to find a nearly new car in the main dealer network that ticked all the boxes.

Or request a cash alternative.

It would be a beautiful lie! However because I'm in a hire car which is costing my company a fortune, they are keen to get me out of it and into my A3. Being as I am still new I am cautious about rocking the boat by rejecting it.

But you are right, it would have been the perfect car that is no longer perfect. :(

KC - Apparently they have tried to locate me another car but failed to find one! You'd think a red A3 with black interior would not be so rare!

Surely the fleet company should cover any costs incurred by their mistake. Also, surely a fleet company has another ( equivalent or better) car they could give you in the meantime rather than you having to hire one out?

This was exactly what I was getting at, its their (or was it Audi's?) mistake!

A Girl? On the Internet? No way!

And in Motors too... Whats going on?!?!

It seems a bit of both because both the fleet company and Audi should have been in touch to do a Spec check before the vehicle was built. The first I heard about the colour change was an email I got this week telling me the vehicle had been delayed. Otherwise I wouldnt have known until I showed up on my driveway.

Skeeter...Shhhh don't tell everyone! :D

If your getting a car bult to your specification, what does it matter wether its a company car or not? You wouldnt accept it if you were buying it privately and the dealer messed up your specs, theres no reason why it should be different if your getting it as a company car.

But then, as you said, it does open the "hassle and time and having no car vs slightly less than perfect car" debate.

If you can live with the Grey interior, take it. If not, say no, I dont see any reason why you couldnt.

Of course you could "live" with the wrong colour interior, but you'd think EVERY time you got in the car "this should have a black interior" :(

This alone would stop me accepting the car.
