Gibbo vs Yemen!

I think thay have become lovers and decicded other ways to fight it out. Huge sheet of plastic and a shed load of baby oil.

Hi there

OK a little more info, were designing a couple of new systems, my system is using:-

Intel Q9650 3.00GHz @ 4.40GHz (1.4v)
Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler
Abit IX48 GT3
OCZ XMP 1600MHz DDR3 Memory @ 1650MHz 7-7-7-20
NVIDIA GTX 280 or ATI HD 4870 (Crossfire tested as well and gonna try Tri-Crossfire too)
Also for the NVIDIA will be pairing it up with a 9800 GTX+ as well for use as a dedicated PhysX card with NVIDIA PhysX Driver.

At the moment my PC is upto 24,000 3D 2006 Marks with two 4870's in Crossfire or 20,000 3D 2006 Marks with a single GTX 280.

Now the Abit board is proving fantastic when it comes to overclocking the CPU but I have two issues with the mainboard. First of all its very picky about memory and only seems to like memory with XMP profiles even if your not using those profiles, trying to set manual timings results in it not booting, I suspect this problem will be fixed with a bios update. However I shall also be researching and looking for some 1800MHz and 2000MHz XMP memory as more performance to come yet.

The other problem is that 4870 X2 cards seem to not display a picture in this motherboard, again no doubt a bios issue either with the motherboard or graphic card. If I can get this resolved I shall put a pair of 4870 X2's in the systems.

So is 24,000 3D 2006 Marks any good with the above systems, should I be scoring more?

P.S. I am sure Yewen will post details of what he is using, but he has two systems in the running to try and compete. :D

Ok guys as Gibbo is doing his usual and going for brute power I have gone for the stealth OMG HE DRIVES A SPORTKA aproach.

Here is rig one which is complete and under going massive stability testing. :D

SILVERSTONE SUGO mATX RIG!
Intel E8600 3.33GHz @ 4.50GHz (1.42v)
Zalman 8700 low profile CPU cooler
Asus P5E-VM HDMI Intel G35 Micro-ATX (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Cellshock 6400 2GB (4GB Total) memory 4 sticks @ (roughly)850MHz 5-5-5-15
ATI HD 4870 X2
300GB Velociraptor

At the moment my PC is upto 22,000 3D 2006 but I have the card clocked and Gibbo has not done this yet. That said considering it is a cheaper rig than Gibbo's AND in a micro ATX form factor I do not think I am doing that badly.

Bring on the quad crossfire Phenom rig! ;)

i'm putting a £5er on Yemen and his spitfire! :P

Haha i did that picture ages ago :D Know where it is?

My money is on Yewen. The water department should help him get some more points when it comes to overclocking

edit: You're not using water? :(

Gibbo, Pretty pants result to be honest.

Devious in the 3dmark06 database on here is beating you with a slower cpu and just two 4850's in xfire.

I expected more to be honest.

If you don't get the 4870x2 working, flash the 4870's with the Asus bios and overclock them to the max.

Also, make a lite version of xp and use that as a clean install.

Not bad. But you could do better :p

These are systems designed to be produced 100x a month and sent out to customers to survive the "stress" they put them through.

I am working on a little bit more out of the system, but the case temp has hit silly high values so may need to take its top off. ;)

Also, do you know how bad this Zalman cooler is? :D
