virgin media cable broadband: yes/no?

sorry for the bump but if you download too much in peak times are you only throttled during the peak times i.e. it resets after 9.01pm? I dont think I could download 3gb from 4-9 anyway lol.

No, assuming STM is configured correctly and working as intended you're throttled for a solid 5 hours after hitting the cap. Theoretically you could hit the cap at 8:59pm and be throttled till 01:59am.
 
Yep, the STM is a bit restrictive as I've hit it a few times without realising how much I'd downloaded. They could do with increasing the limit a bit, cause 3GB between 4pm and 9pm is very easily achieved these days.

Their customer service is appalling. Never known any company like it. However, if they get everything right first time and you don't need to call them then you'll be OK.

I'm on the 20MB line, and it is very good - fast and reliable. What more could you ask for? It's not cheap compared to the LLU ADSL offerings, but you do get what you pay for. For gamers, it's a no-brainer, imo.

No, they won't - that's the whole point.

Rather than having a limit on the total amount you can download they simply restrict you at peak times of the day to maintain QoS for other users. Outside those hours you can murder the connection for all you're worth and they don't care.
 
I'm on 10mb - normally hitting about 6-8mb for last week.

Anyone got a file i can download to test? Speed tests aren't very accurate really.

 
Been with them for many years and never had a problem until last year when my modem broke which they replaced immediately.
Got up yesterday morning and noticed my 4 meg download had gone up to 10 - bonus.

yay, well got all the gear on weds, installed and running like a dream:

lol, ok so i really dont think speed tests are accurate.... have hit 63k on one test

but i have pulled a couple of files from file front at 19-23meg going by getrights meter and me lil vista sidebar tool!!!!
oh and thats not over wireless but using Belkin Powerline AV's
I'm so chuffed! :D
