Finished rewatching ToHeart earlier ... I double dipped on it now TRSI have released a thinpak boxset with fixed audio over the original release.

I like this franchise, the original visual novel was an early example of school based environment where the focus is on the characters and their everyday lives instead of having masses of large complicated plots. This led on in time to the other popular series we see today. For those who don't know there are various games in the franchise, some of which are adult in nature, but the anime's are all normal with relatively little in the way of fanservice.

The anime adaptations consists of the original ToHeart and ToHeart ~ Remember My Memories ~. Only the first of these has been licensed. The second series continues to follow the characters from the first as they progress. After this came ToHeart2 as a series, then 3 OVAs and most recently two new OVAs under ToHeart2 Another Days. ToHeart2 keeps the same environment but adds a whole new set of characters. The second ToHeart series is, IMHO, the weakest of them all which may put a damper on future licensing. Also as the first two series are getting on a bit now their animation style is looking a bit dated.

I'm not sure why I like these series, not a great deal happens in them but they are just comfortable to watch. I do prefer the more modern ToHeart2 episodes but the first series is still a good way to pass the time. I hope that more of this franchise are licensed in the future.

It sounds like toheart might be my cup of tea, i take it you'd recommend it?

I've just received an order for some books, that included the complete Otogi Zoshi which i've been meaning to pick up for a while (I won the first disk, which I enjoyed but had too much else to watch at the time to pick it up on initial release), so i'm trying to decide on watching that or Tsubasa tonight :)

I'm also trying to update some of the entries in dvd profiler that don't have any details for some of the disks in my collection (mainly because I find the thumbnail images handy for reminding me i've got a disk already if i can't remember the name:p).

Yes.
Buy it now if you can find it at a good price.

It's "slice of life" rather than action/adventure/sci-fi but is really enjoyable like most of the Ghibli films.

and replaced sharp metal spears with plungers.
This cracked me up, I bet it was hillarious to see the characters terrified at a group of heavily armoured soldiers pointing toilet plungers at them!:D "ooh! get that away from me! it's disgusting!" :p

Reminds me of when I watched Laputa: Castle in the Sky with the original bad English dub - the voice acting was completely wooden, but the amount of hilarity that was caused by the sloppy translation more than made up for it!

Since I have seen that Werewolf is still up I'm going to ask a question :)

Know of any good scifi anime with an element of cyberpunk?

I finished watching Cyber city the other day and Battle Angel, so I need more :)

As a slice of life series which is comfortable to watch yes I would recommend ToHeart, particularly with the new, cheap, thinpak release. I think from what we have seen on the list our tastes do tend to be quite similar at times :) (in fact you mention Tsubasa, my copies of disks 1 and 2 are due to be delivered today :))

DVD Profiler ... urk ... haven't updated my library for ages and it's completely out of date ... I may look at it at the weekend ....

Does anyone know if Whisper of the Heart is any good?

Whisper of the Heart is a nice story with typically good Ghibli animation. If you watch it then you should really watch the Cat Returns as well.

Yeah I want some more of those too. Watched Ergo Proxy and loved it, thiking of rewatching the first Ghost in the Shell series. Vexille is also very very good.

Cyberpunk, hmm
I know of ergo proxy too.
.hack//SIGN might be worth a look as would be bubblegum crisis (I prefere 2040 version).
Theres the aeon flux anime, blame!, reign (think julius ceaser but modern) and you might be able to get away with divergence eve too although I haven't watched any of these yet.

United Publications .... sometimes they ship a bit early (and sometimes a bit late ... I'm waiting for a few things that have been released that I may need to kick them for). They currently are showing Otoboku 2 for immediate delivery, (which means it's in stock in the UK), for £9.80 + shipping. You can probably get it cheaper from the US direct but I prefer the convenience of having it delivered to work and not having to worry about customs charges.

Edit: incidentally from the above, ordered the Sugardansen single earlier .... well it was 600yen from "rainforest" japan and I was getting some other things from there anyway :)
You do realise that the music on the CaramelDansen AMV is a remix don`t you?
i.e. the single will/is;) got a different tempo is the best way to describe it
I looked around and tried a few before giving up and demuxing the AMV:)

Yes seen them all... have you watched battle angel? CyberCity is very very very good, if you have seen them you will love Cyber City!

hehehe ... according to the credits on the AMV it's the speedycake remix, item I ordered is this whose track listing seems to indicate that that's what it has ...

well from my understanding the cd cover looks right for the speedycake version too.

STELLY, did you see my suggestions for cyberpunk options?

I *ahem* got the speedycake remix and compared it to the AMV in my opinion it sounded different(the amv was more bright and punchy, not sure of the right words to use) but i preferred the amv to the music file
Please compare when you get the cd and let us know what you think :)

Ok, here's a question for people, how many people have bought Region 2 anime DVDs .... but Japanese ones R2 not Europe R2. I know that there is a 99.9999% probability that there will be nothing English on them but some of the physical extra's on the limited editions are quite nice, (even if the disks are expensive).

For example in front of me I have Clannad vol #1 (LE) ... mainly as I liked the *cough* version and when I was on "rainforest" Japan the other day that had it half price. This comes with a nice little book, about half the thickness of a DVD case, of drawings of the main characters.

There are a few others available that I may pick up in the near future. Not that it'll stop me getting them if they are eventually licensed for English release :)

edit: on an unrelated note, had a nice figure of Yomiko Readman (R.O.D) delivered today and looking at what's being prepared for shipping I am going to be one figure away from having the set of SOS Brigade Figma figures by the end of next week :)

this rainforest japan lark. Do you need to do anything special (ie jap address etc) or do they send overseas. I have to say all my bought anime is from 2 of the better known online stores and am looking for a few more good sources.

I know some have been mentioned (somewhere :)) but where would you say is the best option for region 2 (or region free) purchases - I prefer these purely due to being lazy with making things region free.
