Little kid scratched name on car - best way to get this out?

depends whether its gone past the clearcoat as its hard to tell from that picture.

As above. If he hasn't gone through to the paint/primer there is a chance of getting it out. Know anyone who works for a bodyshop who could perform some paint rectification tricks on it?

If he has gone through it then you'll probably be looking at a spray or a proper touch up session.

Old enough to write his own name, but not old enough to tell right from wrong?

Parents mollycoddling the little blighter by any chance?

Get the birch out.

Or maybe they're super parents and have taught their son to write his name at just 1 year old :D

Seriously you've not been around children much have you, they'll draw/paint/cause havock anywhere, and that's with terrible or amazing parents. Of course i'm assuming the child in question isn't 12 years old here!

Anyone got some Dr colourchip in that colour?

It won't work.

Looking at the colour of the scratch, it looks like it is down to the primer or the metal. No amount of cutting compound or even wet and dry sandpaper will be able to repair it as there simply isn't any paint left to cut down to.

A respray is needed.

I've been around plenty of children and none I know would even dare thinking about scratching a name into a car.

I don't see how you can conclude that from that one photo alone. Without seeing it from another angle it could very easily be scratches in the lacquer. I doubt a young child has the strength to put a deep enough scratch in that to go to the metal, infact without seeing it i'd be willing to bet it's just in the lacquer

besides dr colorchip isn't a cutting compound or abrasive, it is new paint. although i wouldn't expect any miracle finish from it on that. maybe just take the edge off

Hence why I said "It looks like...". A young child could easily cut down to the base using a stone, it isn't that difficult.

It could be just a scratch in the lacquer but it certainly doesn't look like it from that pic.

It looks to me like it'll need a respray to get it looking decent again, it's got to be worth it the money if it's only a year old.
