This isn't really a relationship advice thread, I'm not ready to sink that low, yet :p

What's everyone here's experience with girl/boyfriends when leaving for uni? Particularly going to different unis, what happened to you?

everyone i knowwhere seeing people behind each others backs. nearly everyone split up within the year

depends how far away you are from each other and how often you see each other i guess

:/

From friends' experience:

One couple got married after having been together from before to after uni.
One couple split up in first year.
A few more stayed together afaik.

More lasting relationships among my acquaintances.

Most couples I know from high school are still together as far as I'm aware (going into 3rd year) but since I'm not at their unis there's probably a good chance there's some behind-the-scenes goings on! :p

Every man knows this. Why rub salt into the wound?

p.s. please don't rub salt into her wound.

In all seriousness, you lot are lucky I'm not single. GD has enough 'I think my gf is cheating/is my gf cheating/someone has branded '*n' on my gf's inner thigh' threads as it is.

*n

PS: anyone's other half going to Newcastle or Northumbria...? I'll break them in ready for 'back of a Volkswagen' moments free of charge.

I mean err... haha, penski is funny!

I think they would rather remain faithful than make out with a blue haired yeti

In my experience it rarely lasts. A bit of a kick in the teeth, but it's the truth. I've known about 10 couples at uni who have been going out with the partner from 2-6 years. all but 1 split up.

I know it;s hard to hear, but that's the truth. Most relationships don't make it.

But...you could be that 1 in 10....

Don't worry, it's not a kick in the teeth, I knew really, just wanted to hear other people's experience.

Well that's mine. I didn't have a Gf just before coming to uni, but like I said, a lot of people (quiet a few of who I fancied) split up...and not in a nice way. They were all girls, and most were cheated on.

Uni is a relationship killer. :(

I would say you'll have a lot more fun being single going into uni + you'll end up with a much 'better' girlfriend in the long run, as well as not having to bother with the long distance thing which at that time of your life is a big hassle.

Of course with the whole annoying way life works you'll never truly believe that until after you've gone to uni and agreed to the long distance thing, spent several months phoning/travelling about all the time to visit each other which in turn means you miss out on loads of fun with housemates etc, then over time grow increasingly distant with the gf and eventually break up. By which time you'll discover that all the girls you like at your uni are now firmly in the friend zone/seeing someone else. grrrrrrrr
