Hi all.
Actually bought her 8 weeks ago, 1.8iS in Silver, 106k, hard top, 6 CD changer, full (blue!) leather and FSH. £1900 inc tax, I was fairly pleased tbh.
Few scrapes and the odd bit of rot, nothing major. Also covered in stick-on fake carbon tat which annoyed significantly and has since died the death it deserved.

Now, I should have looked closer at the rears. I saw the car with 4 Avons, I know this. I didn't notice one rear had been swapped in the week between agreeing to buy and actually picking it up for a ditch-finder special. Different treads. I am used to a lairy back end, running a Mk1 MR2 as my daily drive. The wife is not. And went Autograssing. Into a barbed wire fence.

So, all panels scratched, one shock spring broken, I decided that a full spray was required. While we were on, I wanted a different colour and we settled on Winning Blue. Should be either the only one or one of very few Mk1's in that colour as well. And here she is. Apologies for the photos taken when it was overcast, but you get the idea.

VERY pleased with the spray, just the monkeys at the garage have lost the splitter cable that goes to the electric aerial. Grr.

I've treated the seats twice now with leather restorer and they are coming up very well, will need some more work to overcome the previous neglect but I believe it's worth it. As you can see in the pics, I've been cleaning the alloys. Using Carplan Wonder Wheels. WOW!!! Took a miniml amount nd it literally painted on, adgitated and rinsed. What a difference it makes, utterly stunning in my opinion and that was one quick treatment.

She still needs: New rear springs, a front grille, wind deflector, flog the hard top and get a mohair hood with glass window and a full valet!

So, what does everyone reckon?

skip the valet and clean it up yourself you lazy sod! Otherwise, stunning. Not looking forward to doing a trackday with all that nice new paintwork to scuff mind>....

i'd go back and ask for that 4th tyre back :p

very nice otherwise though, the new paint looks fantastic :)

what does a full respray cost on something like this if you dont mind me asking?

The spray was £1100. However, that includes repairing the rear arches and sills, replacing the (rotten) rear number plate retainers and many many bolts, fixing one of the mirrirs on properly and repairing some nasty barbed wire gouges AND the change of colour. Originally wanted £800 to just repair/respray in silver before they found the rotten plate holders and bolts. Am happy that it's a good paint job and a stunning colour. I could have gone through insurance, but the wife has a £250 excess, the change of colour was an extra £200, the repair of the rot would have been c.£150-£200 in real terms so in my mind it was worth not losing my nCB.

Oh, pair of Hydragrips are going on the back on tuesday :)

Hydragrips are ace! I've only managed to spin the wheels once on them and that was on wet gravel!!! Hopefully your wife wont stack it again once it's on Hydras!

Are you keeping the MR2?

Aye, have hydras on the 2, used them around the 'ring and more recently on our ***** around scotland (pics to come) and never had any issues, though if you're not spinning them, you ain't trying ;)

Am going to keep the 2 for now, probably going to replace it with a minter tbh. It'll cost more to get mine up to scratch (respray, gearbox, retrim etc) than to buy a mint Mk1 T-Bar in reality, so she remains my commuter ****, running the 60 mile round trip each day. Will flog her on when I've finished using and abusing her :p

Nice pic :) Phil can't spin the Hydras either and he's done two sprint starts in my car.

You both must try harder!!! Especially in the wet, I certainly have them screeching on a regular basis. Excellent all-rounders though, can't fault them for the money really. Thought you'd like the pic!
