why do all the new cards have rubbish coolers and run very hot?

does it really cos them THAT much more to make a decent cooler? few quid more on the price mabye? save us having to buy another cooler for example an acelero s1 or w.e.

just silly they made this really great looking GTX 280 with a really sexy paint job and it runs 80C + all the time. why not invest the money somewhere els.

im sure people would happily pay a little extra for half the temps. (speaking from experience with an 8800GT stock cooler and an acelero s1).

or is it a plan? so the cards have a shorter life span and so need to be replaced earlier.. hmmm!

rant over:D

I think the main reason is actually down to noise, the cards can run fine at the high temperatures and when the fan speed is increased on stock coolers it reduces temps considerably (at the expense of noise of course).

Yeah the 4850 is a good example of this, it has a pretty well designed cooler thats not bad quality, and ATI have chosen to sacrifice low temps for quiet running.
