I've just noticed that my 8800 GTX is reaching 97C at load. This is the 'GPU' measurement given by Everest. Is it ok to keep going like this or should I take it out and reapply thermal compound? (I am using stock cooler)

I'll assume you've vaccuumed all the dust off the card, I found after using my pc for about 3months my old 8800Ultra had all its grills clogged with dust.

Is this the rough constant temp of the card under load? as mine has reached those temps on two occasions. On closer inspection I found my fan had stopped! When I did a reboot it started up again.

FYI mine is an OCUK card bought in Dec 07

I've had it for a year now but did a thorough cleaning a few months ago and also blew some dust off a week ago. It's not OCed either.

I would take out out again and use a can of compressed air, which will get rid of any dust stuck inside the heatsink. If you haven't got dust fliters in your case they can get clogged up with dust rather quickly.

Err no, don't!

Vacuums create a shedload of static electricity and are not good for cleaning out computer parts.

oh dam and i was doing it every time of course pc was of and power plug was out of the socket ? will it still create static balbla thing ?

Well I never touch the pc parts with the hoover, I just keep it around the pc so that all the dust that flies out with the compressed air doesnt go anywhere.

my 8800gtx reached 104c once , turned out it was a faulty card :( luckily dell replaced it and the one i've got now never goes above 70c

You dont need to waste 35 quid on that for an 8800GTX, the stock fan on an 8800GTX is perfectly fine and no one would ever allow there cards to go over 100 degrees.

should be getting 85max on the GTX.
