Hello guys.

I've got the urge to start playing the acoustic guitar. I know that the good ones can cost hundreds of pounds but as I'm a beginner I don't want to be spending that much on one just yet.

I'm willing to spend a maximum of £50 on an acoustic but I don't really know what I'm looking at so can some one recommend me one please?

Cheers.

Tom.

You probably wont get any good reccomendations for that price, you will get told to go visit a speciality shop who will help you out more.. Which is what i reccommend..

I got mine for £70 and thats pretty much bottom basic and wouldnt go lower, stretch a little if needbe.

You are going to seriously struggle buying any decent guitar for a mere £50. Double your budget.

In future make guitar threads in the music section as thats where the majority of these threads are answered.

I'd have said stretch to around £75 for an alright beginners Spanish style nylon stringed guitar, you'll enjoy playing it but if you want to take your guitarring places you'll want to upgrade.

A Yamaha F310 will set you back about £80 delivered and that would be the absolute minimum to check out.

I wouldn't spend anything less. You will seriously get what you pay for. If all else fails, search for a decent second hand one.

I bought a Yamaha FS720 and I love her to bits. Yamaha make fantastic budget acoustics.

Here's mine for £170:

For the sake of guitar players everywhere dont buy it from Argos..

Dark Shadow, i love your guitar, and your pics.

Lol yeah, I know. But there's an Argos really close to me and as far as I know it's the exact same guitar, so what's the point in waiting for delivery. Luckily for me I'm not a snobby ****. :p

Any of the above second hand off eBay? Local Freecycle? I got a great bike off my local Freecycle for nada, got to be worth putting a 'wanted' email on for a guitar.

Go to a shop, its much more personal and they actually care about the product that they are selling..

I aint played mine in quite a while now, so as soon as the mum goes out im gonna go on the guitar for a bit.

Tom - Go to your local guitar shop and print off that deal they will certainly price match the deal and should anything go wrong they will support you/set it up for you/provide after service for the same price :)

I got a Yamaha Pacifica Electric for £80 second hand and for the price it's excellent. Yamaha make fantastic budget guitars full stop.
Agreed, I shall me purchasing this bad boy soon:

I played with both a pacifica and rgx a2, I was blown away by both but the A2 was something else

Cheers James.

Any more suggestions would be great.

I can't seem to find any music shops in stoke which is a shame, the only one I know of closed down recently.

Have you never played guitar before? Not considered an electric guitar? In my opinion they are easier to learn on and there's more fun to be had with them.

But still, I would definately go to a shop. Even if you did though you probably wouldn't get it for that price. They're likely to say that you don't get support or setup from Argos, and their price is justified. They might throw you in a plectrum if you ask nicely.

Other than that, there are guitar dealers trading out of eBay who will set up your guitar to your specifications before dispatching. Might be worth a quick look.

Ask a friend or someone you know who plays and see where they got theirs from, if not then id speak to a shop in the nearest city and travel to it to have a look around

1) its something to do instead of sitting arounf one day
2) you probably wont go that often so when you go itll be okay..

Thats my suggestion anyway, but i like to travel places and have my time to myself, i used to travel from Bradford to Leeds everyday for work and i enjoyed it but thats just me..

That way you can get expert help with what ever you need when ever you want which for free, cant be beaten, i actually need to find a store in Bradford or nearby..

I assumed electric guitars would be way more expensive because of the extra stuff they need.

This is beginning to seem like it's too much hassle lol.
